Canberra Balloon Spectacular

The creatures rule the 2015 Canberra Balloon Spectacular

Yoda, an Angry Bird, and Dodo were the undisputed favourites at this morning’s launch of the 2015 Canberra Balloon Spectacular.

The weather was brisk but crystal clear, and crowds were already in full force at 6:15pm, and continued to swell until the balloons had taken to the sky about an hour later.

Early risers, armed with their coffee and hot breakfast, ooh’ed and aah’ed – first at the flames, then at the tethered balloons bobbing gently in preparation for flight; and finally, at the riot of colour filling the sky above Old Parliament House.

The festival is held on the lawns of Old Parliament House, King Edward Terrace in Parkes, every morning until Sunday 15 March. Balloons usually inflate from 6.15am, launch from (approximately) 6.30am – 7.00am, and breakfast is served until 10am.

Want to get up close and personal with the balloons? You can book a spot on a balloon flight and drift gently across Lake Burley Griffin
