Hordes of Zombies are coming to Canberra

HerCanberra Team

The bloodied, limbless and deceased bodies of the undead will be infiltrating the heart of Canberra on Saturday 28 October as the Canberra Zombie Walk takes hold of the city.

Zombie Walks have become a global phenomenon in recent years attracting hundreds, sometimes thousands of people. Participants meet in an urban centre dressed in Zombie costumes and make their way around streets and public places. The events are run for entertainment and as a fundraising activity.

This year’s zombie walk is run as a free event in support of the Brain Foundation and is expected to include over five hundred walkers and hundreds of spectators. The Walk begins at Glebe Park at 3 pm and gradually shuffles to Garema place via City Walk and past the Canberra Centre’s new beauty precinct.

The event is open to all ages and is popular with singles, families and teams. Organiser Ravi Sharma has seen a lot of interest in the event.

“Halloween just gets bigger every year, with more and more people celebrating it, the Canberra Zombie Walk really sets the tone for the day. We’ve got families and teams coming back year after year.”

This year there are two additional side events being run beside the main event. The Undead Makeover‘ will see a room full of professional makeup artists open to all ages of the public for zombie and Halloween makeup sessions from 11am. The ‘Undead Beauty Pageant’, an unusual take on a beauty contest, will kick off immediately after the Walk.

Both of these events are to be held at Reload Bar on Northbourne Avenue.
