FASHFEST’s new sound for 2016

FASHFEST has always been more than a catwalk show.

New songs, new artists, and many musical firsts are all part of the 2016 music lineup for FASHFEST, Canberra’s favourite red-carpet fashion event.

Last year saw thumping beats and solo acts lift the atmosphere at FASHFEST to new heights. FASHFEST has never been just been about the fashion – it’s about showcasing the best Canberra has to offer in the full range of creative industries, including music, film, photography, hair and makeup.


FASHFEST 2016 promises to be bigger and better than ever, with six shows across three nights – more than enough room for Canberra’s musical talent to share the stage with designers. Every show will be distinct, with its own designers and musicians giving each night a unique atmosphere.

‘The musicians have been hand-picked for the way their individual talent aligns with the themes of each of the six shows,” explains Ashley Feraude, FASHFEST’s Director of Music, and an accomplished artist in his own right under the name Magnifik. “And we have a good balance of female to male acts – talent doesn’t discriminate in Canberra.”



Music for the upcoming shows will range from roots, soul, trap, electronica, disco and house with more musicians than ever – 25 in total – with DJs and live musical acts sharing the stage, including 14 musical acts that have never performed at FASHFEST before.

In the electronica department, DJ Nico Lupo from London, who has played across five continents, will perform his first major Canberra show and sister DJ duo, DJ Dimple and Lipgloss, will play their very own ‘Soul Sisters’ set.

The line up will also feature more female artists than ever — six compared to two in 2015.


To find the perfect sound to fit each night, there will also be a retro vinyl set by well-known DJ Degg and a three-piece band, led by Canberra-based soul, funk and RnB musician, Simon Anau.

On top of all of this, there will be two singles launching at FASHFEST, by both Mondecreen and internationally renowned rapper Ta-kun-da respectively.

Music is also critical to the marketing produced each year for FASHFEST and this year Ashley Feraude (as Magnifik) and Mondecreen have collaborated to produce an original soundtrack for the campaign.
