First Look: The Social Club

Posted on

Four metre high ceilings, sleek original timber floors, exposed beams, full height glass windows and French gold hardware.

Meet The Social Club, the venue that’s…whatever you want it to be.

Launching this Friday 10 November, The Social Club is the brainchild of serial entrepreneur and Canberra digital darling Renee Douros, founder of The Sugar Deli, The Floral Society and recently, PLANTED. So safe to say she knows a thing or two about pleasing aesthetics and the Canberra market.

“Canberra needs a venue like this; an architecturally designed, blank canvas space that rivals anything you’d find in cosmopolitan cities like Sydney, New York and Paris,” says Renee. “The Social Club is able to cater for a range of events –anything from an intimate birthday party, a work conference, a product launch to a full-scale wedding.”

Located in Kingston’s Green Square and designed with mid-century Palm Springs interiors in mind, Renee has created a space that puts traditional models of venue hire to shame.

“We’re taking everything that annoys people about event venues and flipping it on its head,” explains Renee. “Hiring a venue is synonymous with compromises like outdated carpet and furniture, time and decoration restrictions, catering obligations, no open flame – the list goes on. This was especially evident when it came to planning my own wedding. At The Social Club, event organising is made easy. We’re super flexible; we want to make people’s event dreams a reality. We already have everything they need, along with a dedicated Event Manager to ensure every event runs smoothly and seamlessly.”

The spaces have been designed for you to project your wildest dreams onto, with white interiors and completely removable furniture. But if you want more than a blank space, Renee and the team have you covered.

“We have a range of designer handpicked furniture available for use, like a divine blush pink velvet chair with gold trimmings, ghost chairs en masse and handmade, wooden trestle tables,” says Renee.

With 350 metres total floor space, there are three different room options that can occupy anywhere between six and 250 guests.

Room hire starts from just $50 per hour with complimentary, value-added extras like a dedicated Event Manager, a fully equipped commercial kitchen, bespoke furniture, AV including a state-of-the-art, fully integrated 16 speaker sound system with Bluetooth and phone connectivity, as well as a wireless microphone– private loading dock and exclusivity of hire. Not to mention the world’s most gorgeous bathrooms.

Everything you need to create your dream venue for your dream event.

“The type of events are only limited by your imagination,” says Renee. “The space holds up to 250 people, so anything from your typical wedding, birthday and baby shower, to unique events like product launches, fashion shows and workshops. You could even use the space to host a meeting or work planning day. The options are endless.”

“The Social Club is bringing style, practicality and flexibility to local events which I hope will open up a whole new realm to the sorts of functions that happen in this city.”
