As the temperature outside continues to decline, the lure of shopping online from the comfort of our deliciously warm beds can be oh-so-persuasive. But with an abundance of market events descending on the city, there’s never been a better excuse to shrug on your fave winter coat and seek out your next shopping fix.

From ultra-cute knits to soul-warming comfort eats and treats, Canberra’s market scene truly has it all. To help you wander, gobble, sip and shop your way around the stalls this chilly season, we’ve collated our go-to market events this winter.

CANBERRA KIDS MARKET

Forget dragging the kids to the mall this winter, head to EPIC instead for the Canberra Kids Market. Wander the rows of new, handmade and pre-loved goodies as designer labels, big-name brand and local vendors converge in Mitchell this June.

The Canberra Kids Market is curated with little ones in mind, so whether you’re after some fresh kiddy threads, a new stroller, or just a fun day out, you’ll find it all and more as the Fitzroy Building is transformed into a treasure trove of goodies this winter.

THE FORAGE

One for the foodies, warm up this winter with mouth-watering street eats from Canberra’s best producers as The Forage returns to the Little National Hotel.

Showcasing bites from cafes, food trucks, wineries, breweries and beyond, The Forage is forged on serving up the best of local.

HANDMADE MARKET

Support local small business as Handmade Market holds its winter edition at EPIC this July. Uniting artists, designers, stylists, producers and vendors from across the country, shop artisan goods from over 260 local and interstate creatives.

The perfect addition to any winter wardrobe, shop neutrals with Chalk N Cheese Clothing & Design’s lush woollen coats and gorgeous neutral linen pieces from its AW18 collection. The Makers and Shakers Market

The Makers and Shakers Market will descend on Canberra’s Albert Hall this winter with 50 stalls from established makers and emerging talent in tow. Wander the stalls and add a touch of style to your home with meticulously designed ceramics from Sydney based artist, Susan Chen, hand embroidered empowerment from Thimble and Bobbin, and many more.

CREATIVE FIBRE

Fashion takes to the forefront as Canberra’s OG Sunday market hub, the Old Bus Depot Market, hosts a celebration of the city’s textile talents with Creative Fibre. Perfect for the cooler months, crank up the cute (and the warmth) of your coffee cup and join Antoinette Buchmann and Libby Hay of the Knitter’s Guild Queanbeyan to knit your own keep cup cosy.

Or for something a little more wearable, crochet a scarf under the watchful expert eye of Frances Carlton from Crocheted w/ Love. Not so keen on DIY? Don’t fret, Creative Fibre will be busting at the seams with rows on rows of stalls so you can shop directly from the experts themselves.
