International award winners Yann Martel and Eimear McBride coming to Canberra Writers Festival

The Canberra Writers Festival, Australia’s newest major literary event, has announced international authors in time for the release of session tickets: Man Booker Prize-winning author Yann Martel and multi-award winning Irish author Eimear McBride.

Yann Martel is the Spanish-born Canadian author of Life of Pi, which sold more than 12 million copies worldwide, won the 2002 Man Booker (among many other prizes) and was adapted to the screen in an Oscar-winning film by Ang Lee.

Martel’s most recent novel is the acclaimed The High Mountains of Portugal (2016) and his earlier books include The Facts Behind the Helsinki Roccamatios (which won the Journey Prize), Self, Beatrice and Virgil, and a book of recommended reading: 101 Letters to a Prime Minister.

Eimear McBride is an Irish novelist whose debut novel, A Girl Is a Half-formed Thing, won the inaugural Goldsmiths Prize in 2013 and the 2014 Baileys Women’s Prize for Fiction. The novel is written in a stream of consciousness style, and tells the story of a young woman’s complex relationship with her family.
