Lucy Sugerman performs originals with Canberra Youth Orchestra

She has been busy since she became the youngest ever grand finalist on The Voice, and she is determined to push the boundaries of her musical creativity.

Now Lucy Sugerman is the guest soloist in a major concert presented by the Canberra Youth Orchestra.

“Leonard Weiss, the Musical Director and Conductor of the orchestra contacted me a few months ago asking if I’d like to collaborate, and now I am getting my originals orchestrated especially for the concert and performing as a soloist with CYO,” Lucy said.

“I’ve always dreamed of getting to sing with an orchestra and now it’s happening which is totally insane!”

And for those of you who got shivers when she astounded audiences nationally on her blind audition for The Voice, Lucy is including her rendition of David Bowie’s Space Oddity – which catapulted her to fame.

The last year since appearing on the show has been a whirlwind for the Year 12 student at St Clare’s College. While madly scrabbling to ace her school exams, Lucy has been busy keeping up a regular schedule of performances including a sell-out concert at The Street Theatre, Reconciliation Day 2018, the Australia Day 2018 ceremony and the National Folk Festival.

As we reported last year, Lucy has also been signed to Universal Music in both the recording and publishing wings.

“Now I guess I can kind of say I’m a recording artist and songwriter with Universal Music Australia…I can’t believe it. I’ve been up to Sydney to work up there and done some writing already, and I can’t wait to release some music!”

“I also got to work with Supre and had lunch with Supre GM Elle Roseby. These are definitely two events filed in my brain under ‘things-I-can’t-believe-actually-happened’.”

Lucy, who first began performing at the age of nine, is thrilled to be appearing at Llewellyn Hall on Saturday 29 September.

“Lenny is hoping this show will attract more of a younger audience as it’s a youth orchestra, and the repertoire they are playing is a break into more contemporary music, which is super exciting!”

This includes performing film scores by John Williams, including Raider’s March from the Indiana Jones film, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and culminating in his suite from Star Wars and including the Main Theme and the Imperial March – unaltered from the original films.

Conducted by award-winning Canberran, Leonard Weiss, the CYO performs a diverse range of repertoire and features world-class soloists in each of its concert series.
