Qatar Airways has landed in Canberra

HerCanberra Team

Europe and the Middle East are now more accessible to Canberrans than ever before with Qatar Airways maiden voyage to Canberra landing earlier this morning.

Canberra is the fifth destination in Qatar Airways‘ Australian network, flying to more than 150 places around the world including 43 European destinations.

This morning, media and dignitaries watched as the first Qatar Airways plane landed at Canberra Airport, carrying journalists and passengers from Sydney.

The arrival of Singapore Airlines in 2016 and now Qatar Airways has signalled the start of a new era for Canberra travellers. Gone are the days when international travel meant a domestic flight up to Sydney or Melbourne and then a dash from the Domestic to the International terminal.

With the arrival of Qatar Airways also comes their QSuites, which are unprecedented in their luxury – and that’s just their business class.

The Qsuite, recently launched between Doha and London (which connects from Canberra to Doha). It features the world’s first double bed in Business Class, as well as a unique quad configuration which allows a group travelling together to fully transform their private space.

Qsuite will be progressively introduced on the Boeing 777 and Airbus A350 fleets, with Paris and New York next on the list.

Flights will stopover in Sydney, to start a second daily flight and continue on to Doha and will be operated by Qatar Airways’ award-winning Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.

In 2017, Qatar Airways won World’s Best Airline and were named Airline of the Year by the prestigious 2017 Skytrax World Airline Awards at the Paris Airshow. In addition, Qatar Airways has also won a raft of other major awards at the ceremony, including Best Airline in the Middle East, World’s Best Business Class and World’s Best First Class Airline Lounge

Qatar Airways’ home and hub, Hamad International Airport, was this year also rated five-star by Skytrax, one of only five in the world to be given this recognition.
