Under Sedation

Under Sedation: Canberra verse remixed embraces compositions from one of the most vibrant poetic hubs in the nation. This new theatre work weaves together the old and the new, sung and spoken, published and drafted, applauded and unknown, the earnest and irreverent. Under Sedation transforms performance poetry from slam to stage to explore what may hurt or pacify. Under Sedation will not mark the first time that poetry has gone to the theatre but will see The Street transform local poetry into a bold, contemporary production to continue and enrich the dialogue that Canberra poets and songwriters have so generously brought to our community.

Read an interview with cast and crew here. Purchase tickets here.

Happening Friday 29 September from 7:30pm at The Street Theatre, 15 Childers Street, Acton.

The Arrival

Built on the animation of images from Shaun Tan’s new book, a fantastical world comes to life in a strange and wonderful metropolis full of floating ships, alien objects and weird animals. It is in this place that our hero Aki makes his home.

The Arrival is a fusion of Tan’s beautiful, surreal illustrations with exquisite puppetry, haunting music and fine acting.

The challenges, humour and adventures of arriving in a new country resonate with any arrival….a new school, a new job, a new town. The absence of words not only makes the story perfect for puppetry but emphasizes the isolation that is experienced by many people arriving in a new place. This is Spare Parts Puppet Theatre’s most visually stunning and emotionally moving production to date and has been received with absolute critical claim.

Showing 2-30 September at various times. See the website for more information and to purchase tickets.
