The Weekend Edit: Christmas edition

HerCanberra Team

The countdown is on – there are officially three sleeps until Christmas!

Whether you’re hurrying ’round the shops or wanting some festive ways to spend the weekend, we have you sorted with our special Christmas edition of The Weekend Edit!

THE FINAL WEEKEND OF CHRISTMAS IN GLEBE PARK

LITTLIES

The final weekend of Christmas in Glebe Park is full of festive delights! All your favourites including Santa, Nomad the Magician and the painted gingerbread cubby houses will be there as well as some new additions to the Christmas family.

There’s a free petting zoo on Friday from 5-8pm and Saturday 12-7pm and free donkey rides on Saturday from 1-6pm, so mark this in your diary if you want to be living the Saddle Club dream, or just give some cute baby lambs a cuddle.

KIDS AT HEART

How about bringing the petting zoo into your practice? Your yoga practice that is! Goat yoga is pretty much as the name suggests (hilarious and wildly entertaining) and will be happening Friday 22 December at 5pm and the following Saturday at 1pm.

The final night of Christmas in Glebe Park also features some fantastic live music talent including the R&B and pop stylings of Ned Philpot, the entrancing folk tunes of Sophie Edwards, country star Sophie Rainbow and the chart topping and velvety smooth MAXO.

Happening Friday 22 December from 5-10pm and Saturday 23 December from 12-10pm in Glebe Park, Civic.

THE CHRISTMAS CHANNEL

It’s Christmas Eve and the Brown family are at war over the TV remote; the Christmas Channel is a comedic pastiche of TV Christmas entertainment from the last two decades, treating audiences to a whirlwind of scenes, songs and jingles from Christmas time.

Santa looks for love in Santa’s Blind Date (who will win his heart; the Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny, or Debra the Lighting Assistant?); a little girl goes walking in the air with a magical Snowman; a little boy is left home alone on Christmas Eve; a beautiful ballerina dances to the dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy; Grandma sings along (badly) to Songs of Praise; and checkout workers sing about how Christmas prices are down and staying down.

Following the success of The Fairytale Channel (Winner of Canberra Area Theatre Award for Best Original Work, 2014), The Christmas Channel features scenes and songs that will delight children and adults alike. Tickets are available via the Canberra Theatre Centre website.

On from 20 December at 6pm and 23 December at 11am and 2pm at the Canberra Theatre Centre. Tickets are adult $38, concession $30 and child $15. Visit the website for more information:
