Nine breakfasts we’re loving right now

Isabela Gorringe

Spring is here and aside from longer daylight hours and blossoms, what we’re looking forward to most is eating our favourite breakfast in the sun.

Here are some Canberra breakfasts we’re loving right now.

A Bite To Eat: Strawberry French Toast

A Bite to Eat at Chifley Shops serve the most amazing food and they have many organic and vegan options available too. There are almost too many favourites to choose from on their breakfast menu, but the Strawberry French toast is definitely a standout.

Cafe Injoy: Eggs Benedict

Located in Gold Creek with an attractively calm atmosphere, you’ll be drawn in to try Cafe Injoy’s stacked Eggs Benedict with added crispy bacon for extra injoy-ment.

Cherry Beans Cafe: Orange and Cinnamon Muffins

Cherry Beans Café in Gungahlin is a popular northside location where Canberran bakers provide the homemade muffins. Their orange and cinnamon muffins are a go-to for us and adding a freshly squeezed juice of ginger, carrot and orange will keep your body pumping through the day.

ChatterBox Espresso Bar: Potato Rosti Stack

With a creative and interesting menu, ChatterBox’s sunny spot is loved by both Raiders and Brumbies. Our favourite dish is the potato stack with a herbed mayo potato rosti and cottage cheese topped off with poached eggs and a choice of ham, bacon, salmon or avocado.

Mocan and Green Grout: Mandarin Chia Pudding

A favourite of the NewActon early morning road bike crew is the Mandarin Chia, Mascarpone, Almond and Blueberry pudding at Mocan and Green Grout. It’s a light and fluffy way to begin your day.

The Cupping Room: Avocado on Toast with eggs

The Cupping Room is located in the middle of the city –  perfect for when you want to spoil yourself and do some shopping afterwards. The menu is complex but they do simple just as well as they do ‘trendy’.

Poached eggs and avocado on toast with a liberal sprinkle of salt is both light and hearty at the same time. To add a little extra sweet (healthy!) kick, their Soul Shake’ is exactly what we all need before starting the day.

Ricardo’s Cafe: Muesli

Ricardo’s Café in Jamison is my ultimate favourite place to eat as it exceeds my expectations every time. My favourite dish has to be the Muesli. When you think of muesli you think of a bowl of oats and some yogurt, however at Ricardo’s you’ll receive a masterpiece that made me feel like eating it was a shame (until I tasted how amazing it was).

Penny University: Banoffee Croissant French Toast

Penny University is a favourite in the HerCanberra office, with the stand-out being the Banoffee Croissant French Toast. Be sure to add the Pialligo Bacon as it lends a savoury touch. It’s making my mouth water right now…

Autolyse: Sauteed mixed mushrooms

If you’re after freshly baked artisanal bread, then Autolyse in Braddon is the place for you. We love their sautéed mixed mushroom on freshly baked sourdough toast. Divine. Add eggs if you must but this masterpiece is perfection in its simplicity.
