Tessa Domzalski

Everyone gets hit with the occasional dessert craving—it’s inevitable in a world full of hormones and stress.

Canberra is a great place for anyone looking to overdose on chocolate, load up on milkshakes or dig into decadent pastries. To make navigating your next sweet outing a bit easier, here are 10 of our favourite sweet spots in Canberra.

Ricardo’s Cafe & Patisserie

Peeking inside Rick’s tempting cabinet of fantastical creations, it’s staggering to learn he has no formal pastry training. There are Big Boy Ferrero Rochers – double nutella mousse rolled in hazelnuts dipped in chocolate sprayed in gold, resembling miniature gold-sprayed moonrocks; quivering Peanut Butter Domes – peanut butter mousse coated in caramel on a raspberry curd chocolate tart; and Milo like you’ve never seen it before – Milo mousse, salted caramel centre and an Oreo biscuit base. The only limit is Rick’s imagination.

This “digital dessert parlour” is perfect for those who don’t have the time to make or bake their own sweets. The Sugar Deli delivers sweet treats right to your door and is constantly revamping their menu to ensure you keep coming back for more with four-five new treats online every week.

The desserts they churn out are always innovative and interesting, like their ‘Somewhere Over The Rainbow’ white chocolate bark—a colourful snack topped with sour candy and colourful cereal or these candy-filled, marshmallow topped waffle cones.

White Rabbit

This cocktail bar may not be for those still in their youth (18+ yo!), but it is for those young at heart. White Rabbit serves up drinks and desserts inspired by the tale of Alice in Wonderland, like ‘The Unicorn’—a Bacardi and hazelnut liqueur-loaded milkshake. When it comes to sweets they have a variety of items you’d see at any fancy tea party (albeit with a twist): smooth dark chocolate mousse with caramelised bananas and whipped cream, tart passionfruit soufflé with coconut gelato and mango sorbet, raspberry cupcakes stuffed with lemon curd and topped with a sweet white chocolate frosting, tart passionfruit soufflés with coconut gelato and mini-donuts topped in salted caramel and Sailor Jerry ice cream.

This is the kind of place we’d go mad for.
