Canberra’s Best Vegan Pizzas

Courtney Carr

Is there anyone in this world who doesn’t like pizza? The correct answer is no.

This Italian staple has so much to offer – the possibilities are endless and delicious, but for a long time vegans had been missing out (or having super boring cheese-less pizzas that add to the stereotype that vegan food is gross).

Luckily for us, the rise in vegan pizza options has grown in sync with the amount of people becoming vegan. Here are five of our favourites from around Canberra.

Vegan Agricola, Guild

Is there anything better than getting your friends around for a pizza and board game night? Add some wine into the equation and you have a damn near perfect evening, so why not let someone else do the washing up? Guild in the city is the perfect place to make your nerdy dreams come true by not only eating delicious woodfired pizza, but also getting to play a fun selection of board games suitable for any taste.

Guild is definitely vegan-friendly, with a large selection of vegetarian pizzas that you can alter, but the Vegan Agricola is a delicious testament to veggies with char-grilled capsicum, mushrooms and rocket. You can also chow down on some veggie fritters or salad if you’re not feeling particularly pizza-y.

Book a table by calling 6257 2727 or by visiting the website at guild.house

Sweet Potato Vegan Lovers Pizza, Pizza Capers

Pizza Capers in Mawson, Jerrabomberra, Jamison and Gunghalin have been doing vegan pizzas for some time now and the range definitely lives up to their gourmet hype. While you can remove the cheese and any dairy products from the vegetarian pizzas, Pizza Capers does offer two vegan cheese options including the Spicy Vegan Tabasco Smashed Avo pizza and the Sweet Potato Vegan lovers. Arguably the best has to be the latter – it’s the perfect blend of sweet and savoury and the final garnish of rosemary, shallots and salt flakes will make you feel oh-so-fancy!

Vegan Margherita Pizza, Domino’s Pizza

The giant pizza conglomerate is finally offering a vegan range! With three options available in the majority of stores, you can now score yourself a Vegan Avocado Veg Pizza, a Vegan Margherita Pizza, or a Vegan Spicy Veg Trio. You also have the options to customise your pizza with vegan cheese and, as always, the garlic bread is dairy-free, so your pizza experience will now be complete.

My personal favourite from the new vegan range has to be the Vegan Margherita pizza. I was a sucker for a classic cheese pizza back when I wasn’t a vegan and Dominos get their Margherita balance of tomato and vegan cheese absolutely perfect!

Vegan Peri Chick’n, Round

Previously known as Walter G’s, Round in Dickson caters for everyone from the vegan to the gluten or grain free and was one of the first pizza stores in Canberra to be supportive of the vegan community, so it was natural that we all flocked there!

Round has several options including Vegan Supreme, Vegan Veggie Pesto, Vegan Pepperoni, Vegan Mexican, Vegan Peri Per Chicken and Vegan BBQ Chicken – the fake meat selection is off the chain! If you’re keen for dessert, Round also packs a punch with their vegan dessert pizza or vegan chocolate donuts.

Order online at pizzaallround.com.au or visit the store at Unit 8, 28 Challis Street, Dickson.

Smokey BBQ Pulled Jackfruit Pizza, Crust Gourmet Pizza Bar

Gourmet pizza restaurants are everywhere nowadays but Crust Pizza has been doing super fancy eats forever. Crust offers two completely vegan pizzas in the form of Smokey BBQ Pulled Jackfruit and Herb Crusted Al Funghi. Both are delicious, but the pulled jackfruit pizza takes the slice!

Known for being an absolutely amazing and almost too realistic substitute for pulled pork, Jackfruit is a delicious alternative that works with any smokey BBQ flavour.
