Winter’s most EPIC Day Out is coming

HerCanberra Team

A festival full of chocolate, coffee and fun. Where do we sign up?

This winter, a truly epic day out is coming to Canberra featuring some of the region’s best food.

If you were a fan of the Indulge Chocolate and Coffee Expo, then you’ll want to pop EPIC Day Out—its bigger-and-better reinvention—in your social calendar. The event’s moniker pays homage to both its location (Exhibition Park), and the sheer size of the event—it’s going to be huge.

“We wanted to expand the event to include more of Canberra, so we’re holding it over two days,” explains event organiser Kerry Marshall. “This is so out-of-towners can make a weekend of it, as can Canberra families.”

Held from 10 am – 4 pm across Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 July, Kerry explains that the size of the event will mean there’s something for everyone.

Here’s just a taste of what’s on offer.

INDULGENCE IS JUST THE BEGINNING

In EPIC Day Out’s Indulge Coffee and Chocolate area there will be a demonstration stage, sample trays, speciality coffee and a wide variety of vendors.

Want more? You can also buy tickets to the High Coffee Experience, will which offer a twist on the classic High Tea with a decadent selection of pastries, cakes and coffees served to your table.

With only two sessions held per day (four in total) don’t miss out as tickets must be pre-purchased and are selling fast.

READY TO RELAX?

Want a space to kick back in? Head to The Rustic Room where you’ll be able to explore hobbies and crafts as well as sampling savoury produce from local and interstate makers.

The Rustic Room is the perfect place to catch up with friends over a sample of craft beer or local spirits or chat to the makers themselves.

“We’ve got such a wide range of interests in this room like The Woodworking Guild and Revamp, Reuse, Upcycle. We’ve also got model train enthusiasts, the famous Little Big Rigs, various food and drink suppliers even a caricaturist. There is something to stir the interest of everyone” explains Kerry.

“You can come out of the crowd, sit down, listen to people talk about their passions and sample the wares.”

FOR THE LITTLE ONES

Even though everything we’ve mentioned is likely to have your taste buds tingling, it’s the offerings for the little ones that will have Canberra families booking in.

From a magician, bubble artist and face painting to interactive games and a glow cavern, The Family Fun Pavilion will be stacked with ways for the kids to go wild.

A Blastalot Battle Zone will help expend their pent-up energy, while the more adventurous kids can venture into the reptile room where professional handlers can introduce them to some new critters.

“From six to 60 we have something for everyone,” says Kerry. “We have the Blastalot Battle Zone, we have paintball where you aim at a target, there’s Velcro football and a mirror maze and we’ll even have Matt Morrison, The Social Chef, there to chat to the kids.”

The proximity of the expo means that adults will have the chance to let the kids run wild (although children under seven must be supervised), while still having a decadent day themselves. There will also be a central café in Coorong, the kids’ pavilion, so adults can grab a latte and watch the fun unfold.

SO WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?

Held in the middle of the school holidays, EPIC Day Out is a chance for families to indulge in whatever they love for an entire day—whether that’s boutique chocolate, speciality coffee, craft spirits or a giant indoor playground.

“We’ve tried to give people, and families especially, value for money,” explains Kerry. “So, whilst the exhibitors will be selling their wares, the presentations, the live music, the free samples and all the kids’ amusements are included in the entry fee.”
