Five warming winter cocktails

Laura Peppas

Cocktails are often thought of as a summer drink, but they can also be the perfect accompaniment to keep you warm on a cold winter’s night, too.

We’ve rounded up five of Canberra’s most warming cocktails for when the temperature drops…

Caramel Espresso Martini, The District

If you’re seeking warmth and a pick-me-up, this delicious espresso martini with a twist delivers in spades. Infused with caramel, it’s almost a dessert and drink in one–all the better to sip on and people watch in The District’s cosy pub atmosphere.

Shochu Lemonade, Raku

New kid on the block RAKU may be lauded for its food but it’s also home to some pretty delectable Japanese-inspired cocktails.

One example is the Shochu Lemonade, made with tequila, shochu, foraged botanicals and lemon. Sip it in the warming space, complete with an entry door via Canberra Centre on cool winter nights to prevent any gusty breezes.

Splice, XO

If you’re looking for a good cocktail session, it’s hard to beat the cosy space of XO in Narrabundah.

Their delicious Splice cocktail will help shake off the winter chill and make you feel as if you’ve been transported to a tropical location, with coconut cream, peach schnapps, kaffir lime and a healthy ration of spiced rum.

Tall, Tan and Handsome, Monster Kitchen + Bar

Settle in by the roaring fire in this NewActon establishment and order the Tall, Tan and Handsome–complete with Crème de Cocao, Nocello, Mr. Black, absinthe and cream.

There will be no need for a coat by the time you’re finishing the last drop.

Blazed Underground, Highgate House

You can’t get much hotter than this cocktail, which is literally served on fire! With caramel vodka, Mr. Black, tuaca and averna, it’s a tasty way to forget all about the freezing conditions.
