Highgate Ln. Coffee Rosters comes to Old Bus Depot Markets

The upstairs level café at the Old Bus Depot Markets has gotten an update.

And the best part? It means you no longer have to compete with the weekend crowds at Kingston’s Cusack Centre to get your favourite Sunday coffee.

Highgate Ln. Coffee Roasters have been roasting beans in Canberra since late 2014,  with their blends now available at supermarkets and cafés across town—the latest outpost being the Markets.

Co-owner Dan Rayner explains it all started from ‘wanting to give Canberra the coffee it deserved’.

“We wanted to present the best coffee available, we felt we couldn’t do that by buying other people’s coffee—we wanted to do that ourselves.”

Dan says it’s quite the labour of love, creating blends from numerous coffee beans, with special attention being paid to creating the perfect balance of acidity, sweetness, bitterness and the roasted coffee flavour.

Their speciality at the Old Bus Depot Markets will be the ‘Grind and Brew’, which sees the customer choosing which of their 10 varieties of coffee blends they would like to drink, before the beans are freshly ground and brewed on site. Currently, Highgate Ln. is the only coffee brewer in Canberra offering this unique service.

Attuned to the standards Canberrans expect from their coffee, their blends are also environmentally sustainable, organic, sourced from four different continents, and fair trade. And it’s locally made.

“It’s nice to offer a coffee that’s been roasted and created in the same suburb as the markets.”

A weekend win for the many Canberra coffee lovers, as Director of the Old Bus Depot Markets Anthony Niravong simply puts it, “it’s awesome stuff”.
