Five ways to make the most of The Color Run

Ashleigh Went

Clouds of colour, rainbow foam, high energy tunes and a morning sweat session…

I’m not sure that it’s actually physically possible to have a better morning (not in my books anyway).

This year, The Color Run – presented by Sportsgirl – is back for its fourth year and is set to be the biggest year yet. For the first time, it’s the Tropicolor World Tour, with a gorgeous tropical beach theme that’s bringing more colours, more sun and even more fun than ever before.

Here’s how to make the most of the biggest running event on the planet:

Get in the Zones

This year there are more ‘zones’ than ever before – including a brand new Tropicolor Zone. Passing under the shade of palm trees and arches, you’ll be bathed in rainbow foam plus delicious island scents, set to beachy tropical tunes. Think sensory overload, in the most delightful sense of the phrase.

It’s like a mini island vacay – minus the cocktails, which you won’t be missing courtesy of inevitable adrenaline rush and runner’s high.

Beachy keen, jelly bean!

The fun doesn’t stop when you cross the finish line – there’s a world famous Finish Festival including a Rainbow Beach: an interactive island with music, dancing, massive colour throws and unique photo opportunities, so you can snap to your hearts content.

Because, if you don’t ‘gram it, did it even happen? In all seriousness, you’ll be wanting to document the aftermath of this crazy colourful event.

Get your kit on

Everyone loves a goody bag. This years is chock full with tropical treats including the obligatory white t-shirt (with a tropical take, of course), a medal on a floral print ribbon, a headband and temporary tattoos plus a packet of coloured powder for you to throw, scatter or sprinkle as you please – so you can start in white and finish bright!

Make it a family affair

One of my favourite things to see at The Color Run is all the little ones kitted out in their whites, with looks of sheer excitement on their cute little faces. The Color Run is perfect for every age and fitness level – so don’t be afraid to bring everyone from the littlies to the grandparents.

Not to mention, children 5 and under are free, so it’s a great opportunity to spend some quality time together doing something active – without blowing the bank!

Prep right

Make sure you bring the essentials for a day of fun in the sun: sunblock and sunglasses. While there are cleaning zones, it’s also a good idea to stock some towels in the car to protect it from the coloured powder – just in case! Bring your water bottle if you like, though there are plenty of water stations around the course.

In terms of prepping for the actual run, there’s a 30 minute Zumba warm up to get your muscles warm and heart pumping – not to mention building the anticipation for the start chute to open and the run to begin!
