From imaginative play spaces and inquisitive trails to dress ups and interactive exhibitions, the Museum of Australian Democracy (MOAD) has a range of family activities that poke their tongue out at the idea that museums are hands off. 

These Winter School Holidays join in the fun at MoAD and explore what’s on offer,  there is truly something for everyone! Find out more here.

Super Hero Master Class

Do you have a little one who enjoys wearing capes? Are they good at helping people? Let them discover their inner super hero by taking part in this exciting hands-on workshop on offer these school holidays.

Using recycled materials, they will have the opportunity to design their own super hero costume – then they’ll be ready to save the world!

Once your little Super Hero has finished saving the world, relax over a coffee in the Terrace café.

This workshop is suitable for children aged 5 years and over with an accompanying adult.

Cost is $10 per child and $2 per accompanying adult. This includes museum entry with access to all the other exciting activities on offer these school holidays.

Monday 9 July through to Friday 13 July from 10 am – 11.30 am. This program will fill up quickly, so make sure you book here.

Family Action Packs

Keep out of the cold this winter with one of MOAD’s indoor family action packs.  You and your family can embark on the ultimate adventure and explore unique trails throughout MoAD.

Everyone can get involved in these adventures and action packs are available to borrow all day, every day. Save the world on the Superhero Museum Trail, break the news with a Press Gang Backpack or find out what makes collectors tick with a Collector Kit.

If you’re brave enough to tackle the crisp Canberra weather, venture outside with a Stanley Backpack and bird watch in the pristine gardens. Just make sure you rug up first!

MOAD’s award-winning exhibition PlayUP is ideal for children aged 0-7. Stand up, make up, think up and step up in PlayUP, our colourful family space that flips the traditional idea of museums completely on its head.

After an exciting transformation, PlayUP has all-new activities to inspire and challenge young minds, including listening pods, a fuzzy felt wall, a roleplay Kindness Café and craft activities at 10:30 am daily. Adults can even join in the fun too!

Let your imagination run wild in DRESS UP, where the young – and the young at heart – can dress up to their heart’s content. Become a Greek Warrior or Queen Elizabeth II and discover the many other changing fashions of democracy.

Terrace Café 

You and your family have probably worked up an appetite after exploring MoAD. Why not stop by the Terrace Café, and indulge in one of their delicious sweet treats or sandwiches? Enjoy the winter sun while taking in a hot beverage or a babycino…depending on your tastes!

MoAD Little Corner Shop

Before leaving the museum be sure to stop by the MoAD Little Corner Shop. This gem is waiting to be discovered in the café. It may be a small space but it celebrates democracy in a big way!

Call in and check out the collection of books, Old Parliament House and MoAD souvenirs and kids’ PlayUP ‘express yourself’ ranges and find that ideal memento for friends, family or yourself!
