Real Weddings: Jessica Dixon

HerCanberra Team

The seasons have shifted from summer to autumn and with it one of the most beautiful backdrops for weddings in Canberra —the turning of the leaves before they fall during the colder months. Today, we kick off the first in a brand new ‘Real Weddings’ series for HerCanberra, where local brides share the details of their big day. First cab off the rank, Jessica Dixon shares all the beautiful details of her rural-inspired wedding…

The Dress

I absolutely fell in love with my dress as soon as I laid eyes on it — the Pronovias Leiben gown — a fish tail silhouette with a lace bodice and long full skirt. The dress that both my mum and bridesmaids fell in love with too. I bought my dress from Brides by Francesca in Sydney.

I paired my dress with a slim belt embellished with pearls and crystals, my mum’s original veil with detail that matched my bodice and gold sparkly shoes.

The Flowers

We went with a bit of variety when it came to our flowers. Moxom & Whitney created my beautiful stunning bouquet, button holes, corsages and terrarium centrepieces.

The team at Moxom & Whitney were so incredible at creating our flowers, I was blown away when I saw it all come together.

The flowers for the reception were done by the wonderful Jacqui Winters who travelled from Sydney for our special day. Jacqui made the room the look amazing, I couldn’t have asked for more. My bridesmaids and I made their bouquets and the flower girl bouquets as I just wanted simple babies breath.

The Venue

Both our ceremony and reception were held at Gold Creek Station in Hall and was absolutely perfect for the style we wanted. There was very little limitation from the venue on what we could and couldn’t do so we were really able to create the perfect look and atmosphere we wanted for the wedding. Craig was also brilliant to deal with, which is always a blessing for any bride to be.

The Photographer

We were blessed to have the incredible Lisa from Lisa Lois Photography as part of our wedding entourage.

She was truly amazing and went above and beyond for us. I was amazed at how many gorgeous candid moments she captured throughout the day as I didn’t realise she was there in those moments. It absolutely poured down with rain on our wedding day but Lisa managed to make it work and produced amazing shots for us to treasure.

The Celebrant

The lovely Amanda Corbett was our celebrant and I honestly couldn’t have done it without her. She was so supportive throughout the entire process and really knows her stuff.

I was so confident walking down that aisle knowing that she had it all under control when I got there. Amanda was also amazing with our guests and engaged them in our ceremony. She made our day fun, relaxed and stress free which I am so grateful for.

The Wedding Party

Our wedding party was made up of 11 fabulous people including four groomsmen, four bridesmaids, two flower girls and my son as the pageboy.

The bridesmaids worse blush pink dresses with gold sparkly shoes to match mine. The flower girls wore white with babies breath crowns. The groomsmen and my gorgeous page boy wore chinos with white shirts, suspenders and bowties and finished off with a black pair of Vans.

The Special Touches

We wanted to make our wedding day a little bit different and do something really special for our guests in between the ceremony and reception.

We had a drink station with punch, flavoured waters and champagne cocktails, a dessert table with an assortment of cookies and macarons, a DIY photo booth with vintage door backdrop and a polaroid camera, and we also had a Popcorn Bar where our guests could choose their own flavourings and mix with Maltesers and M&Ms.

The Hair

Missy’s Magic Styles really bought my ideas to life for our hair and was our wonderful hairstylist for the wedding.

I wanted low messy buns for the bridesmaids that somehow incorporated the babies breath and what Missy created was gorgeous and we all loved it. For my hair, I wasn’t too sure what I wanted as I had quite a big head piece and I didn’t want to take away from that so Missy created a mermaid sort of look with soft loose curls around my face and then loose waves.

I absolutely loved it and it suited my dress, make up and head piece perfectly.

Makeup

A good friend of mine, Jessica Byrne of Jessica Dorothy Makeup Artistry was our makeup artist for the day. I really can’t speak highly enough of her.

She is absolutely amazing at what she does and we all looked flawless on the day. She nailed our looks in the trial with very little direction from me as I was unsure what would suit me and the bridesmaids and how we could tie it all together.

She really considered all aspects of the wedding before creating our looks and the result was perfect.

Styling

I am the owner of Willowhouse Weddings & Events so I did all the styling for our wedding myself.

We wanted a vintage/rustic look and feel for the wedding so I was really lucky that I had already accumulated a lot of items that I could use.

Although it was hard juggling work, other weddings, running a business and also trying to focus on our wedding as well I wouldn’t have had it any other way. It’s so rewarding seeing visions come to life and creating something really special for people to enjoy.
