Canberran named Young Gun of Wine finalist

Posted on

Earlier this week, the finalists for the coveted 2017 Young Gun of Wine trophies were revealed.

The 12 finalists consist of six winemakers from South Australia, two from Western Australia and Tasmania respectively, and one from both Victoria and the ACT. This year, amongst the Final 12 are four female winemakers, including one in a husband and wife duo, blazing the trail for women in a traditionally male-dominated industry.

Chris Carpenter from Lark Hill Biodynamic Wines of the Canberra District is among these finalists. The Final 12 follows on from the Top 50 announcement event last week, where guests were able to meet the 50 winemakers and enjoy their wines.

The wines themselves make a diverse statement of Australian wine today, from traditional through to emerging varietals such as Gruner Veltliner and Sagrantino. There are biodynamic and natural wines; and reimagined wines, such as a Riesling infused with native botanicals; and a “field blend” of ten varieties.

The remaining opportunity for public to attend an event is at the People’s Choice, being held on May 24 in Sydney and June 19 in Melbourne where guests are encouraged to vote for their favourite blend or home state finalist!

The overall winners of the various trophies will be announced on June 20.
