Cartier Masthead Final Weeks

Her Say: Issue of the Week

HerCanberra Team

In this weekly street series we pick a hot topic of the week and ask for your thoughts…

On the weekend thousands of visitors flocked to the opening of Floriade, with this year’s theme of reflection focusing on the centenary of World War One and remembrance.

Now in its 28th year, the flower festival appears as popular as ever with tourists. But what about locals?

On a beautiful spring day, we hit up Westfield Belconnen and decided to ask shoppers:

“Do you usually go to Floriade, what do you love about it and what would you change if you could?”

Geraldine, Nicholls.

“I usually go to Floriade once or twice a year, but with different people. I was performing there yesterday – I dance. It’s a great place to go to catch up with friends for something different. If I could change anything about it, I would want more entertainment.”

Edwina, Palmerston.

“The atmosphere and the flowers are the highlights of Floriade. I think a few more interactive things for the kids to do would make it much more interesting.”

Victoria, Belconnen.

“I try and go to Floriade whenever it’s on. For me it’s an exciting time because it’s the start of Spring after having Winter for so long, but I do feel like it’ s the same thing every year so if it had some extra food stalls or new flowers, it would be much better.”

Ragin, North Lyneham.

“I always try and get to Floriade when I can, the flowers are just amazing and everybody is in a good mood at this time of year. I wouldn’t change anything personally – I think they do a great job.”

Jim, Wallaroo.

“I always go to Floriade, because I like to plan in advance what I’m going to do in the garden at home, there’s some good tips. If I could change anything, I think they need to provide more parking.”

What would you change about Floriade if you could?
