Belle Bird for a stylish, curvy bird…

Samara Gentle

I’m a long-time fan of the Birdsnest range, the only problem being I’ve never been able to fit into their clothes. Sadly their regular range only goes up to a 14/16. So imagine my excitement when they released their own plus size range, Belle Bird – a new Australian label that was created in response to exclusive body shape research that revealed the body shapes of more than 60,000 women. So yes, I may have let out a squeal when I read the news earlier this year.

While the range is still quite small, it does offer the key, staple pieces you need to create a working wardrobe and by working I mean one where you’re actually going to wear everything you own. So when the opportunity arose to select a few pieces for myself, it took every effort to stop at just three…

The Belle Denim Jacket

Don’t be put off by the name of this piece. For me, it’s more like a blazer and a must for every woman, no matter the size or shape. I love the cut the Belle Denim Jacket; it hugs in the right places and sits at just the right point on the waist. While I’ve paired my blazer with workwear in this image above, I actually think it looks best with a pair of jeans and fitted white or black tee. Add a statement necklace and then dress up with heels or keep it casual with flats. It is a piece that is completely versatile and one that I’ve also worn over a fitted black work dress with the blue hues providing a nice splash of colour. The blazer does run a little small so I’d suggest opting for a size bigger than what you would usually wear.

The Belle Cocoon Cardi

I live for a plain simple cardigan and I’ve been yet to find one that I find fits properly without stretching around the arms. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve worn this cardigan since receiving it. It goes with literally EVERYTHING. I wear it to work, on weekends, over dresses, tees, any and every outfit I can. If you decide what to buy from the Belle Bird range then this cardigan is the bees knees! It fits snuggly at the wrists while moving into a batwing along the arm and shoulder. It’s a flattering length and sits loosely around the body so you feel anything but constricted.

The Belle Open Sleeve Dress

For some reason this dress, reminds me of a lot of local designs. While I don’t usually reach for the cutout dresses when shopping, I find the hem of the dress really interesting and thought I’d at least give it a try. As soon as I popped it on I knew this would become a favourite. It fits nicely around the chest and arms with the cutouts well positioned along the upper arms without looking tacky. Because the bottom is more of a ‘bubble’ hem it doesn’t grab at your hips or stomach either and creates a really nice silhouette.
