Bianca Pavlic The Label to debut at FASHFEST 2017

Just months after her designs appeared in US fashion magazine Coco, Bianca Pavlic’s eponymous label is set to make its FASHFEST debut.

Fresh from a European holiday where she gained inspiration from “the relaxed way of life”, the 20-year-old designer says all of her attention is now focused on her runway debut, which will be taking place at FASHFEST at the National Convention Centre on Friday 29 September (Show Two).

Bianca explains that her early love of sewing came from her mother, a quilter, but it was mostly put to use making her own clothes and presents for friends.

“When I was really little—maybe four—I started drawing dresses for fun, and then at school I started doing more with sewing,” she says.

It wasn’t until she was in college that Bianca decided to pursue fashion as a career.

“I have this motto: “you always come back to your original concept’,” she explains.

“All my ideas for clothing, and with my designs, I always go back to my first thought about the concept. It’s [similar] to when I was little—the first thing I did was sewing. It was my original concept.”

Bianca graduated with a Diploma of Applied Fashion, Design and Technology from Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) earlier this year and says that it helped hone her technical abilities to elevate her designs to the next level.

“CIT pushed my skills further,” she explains, listing Zimmerman, Chanel, Gucci and Marni among her influences.

Bianca describes her aesthetic, as “very feminine [with] clean silhouettes”, adding that she loves using refined colour palettes and “adding colour through embellishments and beading”.

In a nutshell, Bianca’s clothes manage to be luxe and simple at the same time. Think heavily-embellished, tailored vests with simple black briefs, and beautifully-cut broderie anglaise tops with sweeping lace skirts.

It will be these aesthetics that FASHFEST ticket holders will see on the runway this spring.

“[The collection] is a mixture between ready to wear and resort wear,” she explains. “It’s going to be very unique with feminine, romantic silhouettes using a lot of frills and details which push the outfit.”

Bianca summarises the collection as “authentic, vivacious and dreamy”.

As for hair and makeup, Bianca describes the look as minimal and polished with accentuated brows, while the models’ hair will be a mixture of up and down with a messy edge.

For Bianca, showing at FASHFEST is a dream come true for the young designer.

FASHFEST has grown so much over the years and I can see that this year will be bigger and better than the rest,” she says. “FASHFEST is an amazing opportunity for local, Australian and international designers. Already, numerous labels have achieved so much from FASHFEST, including Megan Cannings Designs and Charly Thorn being invited to showcase at fashion weeks worldwide.”

“For a young designer like myself this is the ultimate goal. FASHFEST will expose my label to numerous people. Who knows what will happen next.”
