Bisonhome introduces the Brian Tunks Collection

Bisonhome is famous for its ceramics, but recently Creative Director Brian Tunks has applied his design philosophy to new materials for the launch of his self-titled collection.

“You can call it my mid-life crisis,” he laughs. “I’ve had so many people over the years asking me to extend what I’m doing, so in a way that’s motivated me to take this forward.”

This weekend the Bisonhome showroom in Pialligo will be hosting the launch of the Brian Tunks capsule collection of pure linen products. Brian has been working on the collection with artisans around the world and is excited to be able to share this new range.

“We use European flax woven in an Indian studio using Italian machines from the 1960s, it’s fantastic,” he explains. “We weave it and then tub dye which gives this lovely textural finish to the materials so they don’t feel mass produced.”

At the moment, the transeasonal collection will include throws, cushions and scarves. Brian is planning on extending into furniture, glassware, sensory products and women’s fashion and accessories later this year.

“I’ve spent a lot of time travelling and researching,” he says. “In this industry there’s a lot of large scale production but I wasn’t interested in that, I was interested in going back to grassroots and the techniques and the heritage behind a lot of these processes.”

The launch will also feature floral arrangements from Moxom and Whitney throughout the store and on Sunday, Brian and Lou Lou will be discussing their personal tips for styling florals and home wares.

“I love Moxom and Whitney’s energy and the way they work outside the box,” Brian says. “It’s difficult to do good design but it’s easy to apply it to your own life if you just uncomplicate it. That’s the principle behind what we’re up to this weekend.”

After designing Bisonhome products for over 20 years, Brian has refined a highly recognisable style.

The Brian Tunks Collection allows Brian to work with new and innovative products while retaining the timeless design fundamentals that he is known for.

“Brian Tunks is an evolving brand of accessories that are covetable not disposable,” he says. “I absolutely loathe the cycle of home wares where something is ‘on trend’. My main principle is good design is never on trend, good design is classic.”
