Canberra’s Summer Beauty Trends

Amanda Whitley

Experts reveal the looks you want!

It’s hard to believe that we’re more than halfway through Spring…but sunny days in the 20s mean it’s time to leave dark wintry colours behind and start embracing colour. And we’re not just talking clothing. Makeup for Spring/Summer 2014/15 is fresh and bright, and all about letting your natural beauty shine through.

The good news? When it comes to makeup trends this season, there’s something to suit every age, stage and style. We asked four Canberra makeup artists for their favourite looks for Spring/Summer 14/15 and the products they can’t live without.

Madeleine Bulbeck

The Look

The key trends for Summer & Spring 2014 are black winged eyeliner, bright orange lips, barefaced makeup & blue/teal eye makeup. These trends have been worn on catwalks, in advertisements and by many women all around the world – now it’s Canberra’s turn!

Brodie sports a very summer look with the bright orange lips being the stand out feature of her makeup. She also wears the black winged liner.Photographer: Garry Chiu (GC Photography), Hair: Angelina Zdravkovic (Anton's Hair Salon), Makeup: Madeleine Bulbeck (Enhance You), Model: Brodie Williams. Side panel shorts and triple strap bra-let swimmer top: Erin Spain (Ziyah Clothing).

What you need

My “Go To” products include the MAC Fluidline Eyeliner Gel with an angle brush to get that winged black eyeliner look; Napoleon Perdis Devine Goddess Lipstick in Hara for bright orange lips; NARS Sheer Glow foundation for coverage that is good, but still leaves skin looking very natural; and Urban Decay 24/7 Eyeliner in Deep End; a teal colour that can be used in the inner rim of the eye or along the top lash line. Love!

The Look

Structured brows are still a big thing, but this spring and summer we’ll see women going for the less structured, more natural look; filling in their brows rather than over-drawing them.

Orange lipstick is also going to be really big this season, which I’m a huge fan of! We’re also starting to see less black gel liner, with some women going for the more natural look of no liner at all or a brown eyeshadow powder along the lash line.

I love that women embrace low maintenance makeup in spring and summer – it’s all about looking natural and fresh with a pop of difference, whether that’s your lipstick or eyes.

What you need

To keep my lips nourished I love Canberra’s own Lips By Tanja, I have one in my bag and next to my bed to lather my lips and keep them moist! I’ve also embraced the Napoleon Perdis Devine Goddess Lipstick in Hara, the perfect shade of orange for this season. For my brows I can’t live without Vanity Mark – it allows me to fill in my brows but keep them looking super natural.

The Look

When looking to the hottest new trends for spring and summer for 2014/15 we need to look back…back to the 90’s! Expect to see fuller eyebrows and natural skin. Lipstick is still going to be key the makeup item to grace your face – stay up to date with gorgeous matte browns, rich dark purples and nudes in every shade.

The Look

Taking inspiration from the catwalks of the Spring/Summer 2014/15, the most frequently used words when it came to beauty were: minimal, natural and real. Keep makeup simple – instead of a bold lip or smokey eye, work on finding a really flawless base – an illuminating primer and light foundation will keep skin looking young and radiant. A natural bronzing powder on the cheeks, top of the forehead and along the jawline will give that beautiful sun kissed look.

For the lips, a nice neutral gloss. Give your brows a bit of attention with a good brow gel or powder and If you can’t imagine leaving the house without doing an eye look, a beautiful big coat of mascara and a liquid or gel liner will add just that little bit more definition.
