The Cool Climate Capsule Wardrobe

Ashleigh Went

Canberra winters don’t always encourage the most fashionable wardrobe choices.

When the mercury drops, there’s temptation to don something comfy and warm. This is precisely why it’s important to have a few on-trend, go-to pieces that will keep you looking stylish even on the chilliest of days.

Updating your wardrobe for a new season can be pricey, which is why we headed to Canberra Outlet Centre to get our fix. Shopping here is great because you can pick up some good quality investments as well as cheaper basics or statement pieces.

Modern classics

The secret to a great capsule wardrobe is combining style classics with a few key on-trend or edgier pieces. This version of the Breton long sleeve tee is given a modern update with bell sleeves, and pairs just as well with a biker style leather jacket as it does an elegant trench. This theme carries through to our accessory choices as well, with simple jewellery pieces in on-trend rose gold. They’ve got a luxurious look but a humble price tag – these hoops were on sale at Jacqui E for just $5.

Details, details

Classic denim hues of indigo and black mean maximum versatility and longevity. Details like a bold colour, eye-catching neckline and an intricate print bring life to the outfit – this pussy bow blouse ticks all the boxes. Portmans at Canberra Outlet Centre are the perfect destination for this kind of buy, stocking a range of chic, feminine office wear that can often be snapped up on sale.

Accessorise this

Accessories are an especially great way to give your look a seasonal update without the cost of a completely new wardrobe. Don’t be afraid to get creative with your accessories – we’ve used a jewelled hair pin from Cue as a brooch on the lapel of this leather jacket to lend a glamorous vibe. On the other hand, studded accessories like this belt or clutch give an edgier feel. We picked up these bejewelled and studded accessories from Cue at a fraction of their full retail price.

Well heeled

It wouldn’t be a capsule wardrobe without some show stopping footwear. R.M. Williams’ Adelaide are a wardrobe staple built to last, which usually retail for upwards of $500 but as end of season stock are available for just $350. A pair of black velvet boots are this season’s “it” shoe, on sale for less than $100, while these black pointed stilletos scream ‘classic’, while the studs and t-bar add visual appeal.
