DIY like a pro: Paint Place Spring workshops

There’s something about Spring that brings out the inner ‘DIY-er’ in everyone. But we’re not all naturally handy…my husband won’t let me near a roller. That’s why Paint Place Phillip are kicking off a series of Spring DIY evening workshops on everything from the latest colours to caring for your timber deck.

According to owner, Alex Hetenyi, paint is so much more than just protective coating.

“These days, paint is about fashion and trend. It gives us the ability to completely change the look of a room, piece of furniture, or outdoor area with just a simple lick of colour.”

Alex should know…paint is in his blood. His family business was originally opened in 1978 as ‘The Decoration Centre’, with a focus on design, curtains and wallpaper, and now The Paint Place is all about paint. So much so, that they recently won Best Paint Shop in Canberra for the second year in a row at the Master Painters Australia Awards.

“Anyone who’s ever decorated knows that painting can be both exciting and frustrating. Choosing exactly the right colour scheme can be overwhelming—I mean, have you ever seen how many different shades of white there are?”

“Technique is also really important…knowing the tricks of the trade will help to give a professional result at home.”

Alex says the series of workshops, being held in the Paint Place Phillip store, are designed to give decorators and renovators some expert advice and know-how before starting a major project.

“The workshops will use Haymes products—they’re one of Australia’s leading brands and have an amazing range of interior and exterior paints and timber finishes.”

“We’ve structured the program to give people the latest knowledge on current trends as well as hands-on advice on how to get the most out of their paint products.”
