Dream Homes: A Natural Habitat

Belinda Neame and Amanda Whitley

After growing up in a home full of dollhouses, miniatures and tiny things, Shop girl, Flower girl’s Kerist Klekner’s charming home
in watson is quite the opposite.

Kerist has a natural, simplistic and timeless approach when it comes to creating the spaces within her home. Keeping possessions to a minimum and investing in quality items, she has used natural materials such as wood, ceramic, cloth and neutral colours to create unity.

The study is an inspiring room for Kerist and her husband, Tom. It’s packed to the ceiling with books and DVDs and it’s a place where they daydream about travel.

The couple designed the kitchen space together, as Tom does most of the cooking. Loads of bench space, storage and both timber and stone have been used to give it a masculine edge with warmth.

Meaningful pieces also play a big
part in Kerist’s home. The living room is saturated in natural light and is warmed by a beautiful fireplace. It
is a true sitting room with cherished couches inherited from grandparents who had them made in the 50s when they came to Australia.

Adorned with loads of linen cushions and places to rest weary feet, it’s a favourite room to do quiet things like knitting, reading or simply daydreaming.
