Sash & Belle and Baby

Local Canberra handbag designer Kristy McPhillips of Sash and Belle, is extending her range and adding a nappy bag.

It was Kristy’s own experience of being a mum and not being able to find a quality, stylish nappy bag that lead her to develop her own bag. Kristy and I caught up and I road tested the bag (sadly HerBaby slept through this adventure!).

“The nappy bag suits a busy mum and helps her still feel she has her own identity,” explains Kristy, “and the business bag that has a place for everything and fits the Surface Pro or iPad etc.”

My experience of the bag is really lovely and very versatile. Internally it has all the pockets and compartments you would want in a nappy bag, and externally it is a lovely design that would work well as a handbag – honestly if you were using it as your own bag people wont be looking for your baby! It isn’t so large that you look as though you are going away for the weekend carrying it.

The bag features eight pockets, zipper to close, matching shoulder/stroller straps that is adjustable, lightweight and made of wipeable faux leather. I road tested the lovely caramel coloured bag but it will also be available in charcoal.

While concerned with the aesthetics and practicality of the bag, Kristy is also concerned with the ethics of production.

“The bag will be manufactured in China (where all other Sash & Belle bags are made) I have met with the manufacturing company and will be visiting their factory again in May 2016,” she says. “The factory is compliant with Chinese human right and a core labour standards and I was happy with the treatment of staff and factory workers.”

For this new design, Sash and Belle are trialling a new way to purchase the new design through pre-ordering on the crowdfunding platform Pozible.

The RRP is $110 but it is available for pre-order for $70 (including shipping to your home) or $55 (local pick up). The order cut off is 27 April 2016.
