Sustainable Style: Pure Pod and BMW join forces

Helen Roe

It’s fashion with a conscience. Style that’s changing the world. And now, it’s stylish transport that doesn’t cost the earth. Stylish sustainable transport meets timeless sustainable fashion

One of the major sources of worldwide pollution is fashion, second only to the petroleum industry. Our world is drowning in “disposable fast fashion”, trends that go out of date just as fast as they are made and purchased. Shop ‘til you drop micro priced fashion works on low quality, unethically made and high volume. Excessive purchases bring increased waste, hazardous chemical use and an environment groaning under the pressure.

Award winning Australian eco fashion label Pure Pod has been cleaning up the fashion industry since 2007. Beautifully designed, 100% Australian Made and crafted with care, Pure Pod selects quality organic fabrics, which shape a classic and timeless wardrobe. They are now taking it one step further, collaborating with BMW to expand conscious living through not only what you wear, but also the car you drive.

What started as a collaborative idea over coffee between two enthusiastic locals, Pure Pod’s Kelli Donovan and Emma Crowther from Rolfe Classic BMW, has now gone national, with the support of BMW Australia.

Pure Pod will launch its capsule collection Trouvaille, which means ‘something lovely discovered by chance’, alongside the BMW i3 series hybrid at the upcoming Undress Runways fashion events. Undress Runways is a for-purpose fashion show that promotes a sustainable & ethical fashion industry, which values people over profits. It tours Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne this October.

According to Kelli, Pure Pod believes we all have a part to play in changing our world and protecting our planet, even if it is only small, every bit counts.

“There is a real story, a history behind the Pure Pod brand, that is strong and focused. Since our inception, we have tried our hardest to find and use the most organic & sustainable materials, processes & techniques we could find, as we feel we owe it to this earth we all share and have a responsibility to protect for future generations.”

“Through informed choices and simple acts of awareness that we can all play our part in changing our world, for the better. We believe in building a brand on nurturing values, trust and good relationships. We are excited and honored to partner with BMW to celebrate the stylish sustainable BMW i3”.

For many of us, it can be difficult to understand where to start, and we question if our choices really can make a difference. Kelli explains that it starts with simply asking more questions and educating ourselves about where our clothing comes from and who made it.

“Buy less, buy quality and buy from independent designers and brands that support fair trade, organics and source sustainably.”
