Top five treatments to lift, tighten and rejuvenate your neck

Suzie Hoitink

Do you have discoloured, wrinkled or sagging skin on your neck or chest?

Don’t worry, you’re not alone. Many women over the age of 40 do.

The skin on our neck and décolletage is prone to premature ageing as it’s three times thinner than the skin on our faces and lacks the regenerative ability required to bounce back when damaged.

Environmental factors such as excessive UV exposure and over sensitisation from perfume spraying are key causes for our necks and décolletages ageing before their time and can often lead to a condition called Poikiloderma.

Poikiloderma sounds serious, and for the thinner skin on your neck and chest, it is. Manifesting as reddish, brown skin, Poikiloderma causes a rough or ‘chicken skin’ texture. This rough texture is elastosis, resulting from abnormal elastin fibres being produced, and can make the skin appear thickened, wrinkled and sagging.

In addition to Poikiloderma, some women can develop an ageing ‘veiny’ appearance to the neck. This is due to a muscle called the platysma becoming more prominent, resulting in platysmal bands, which contribute to the ‘turkey neck’ that many women experience as they get older.

If you’re suffering from one or more of the above, don’t worry. Here are our top five treatments that really improve the look and feel of your neck and décolletage.

Ultraformer III to tighten

Ultraformer III is an innovative ultrasound device that uses precise skin pulses to tighten, lift and reduce wrinkles. It precisely targets multiple deeper layers of the skin, including the SMAS layer (which is the layer that surgeons pull back when doing a face lift), stimulating new collagen and providing long-term tightening of the skin. A face and neck Ultraformer III treatment takes approximately 60 minutes with many of our clients seeing tightening immediately post-treatment. Learn more here.

Fraxel Dual to reduce wrinkling

Fraxel is a fractionated laser that puts pinpricks of heat into the skin, creating an injury below the surface that then stimulates a repair and renewal process whereby the damaged cells are brought to the surface and shed, and new collagen and hyaluronic acid is generated.

Fraxel is perfect for anyone who has prematurely aged their skin with too much sun exposure as it significantly improves the quality and overall health of skin by strengthening, hydrating and reducing wrinkles and pigmentation. Learn more here.

IPL to reduce pigmentation and redness

Intense Pulsed Light, or IPL, emits a pulse of light at a wavelength that is absorbed by the treated area (in this case the melanin in a pigmentation lesion), with the heat causing the unwanted particles to break up into smaller particles that your body then removes via its natural waste processes. A quick treatment that takes approximately 30 minutes, our consultants have a unique process to target and tailor the treatment to your specific needs, delivering you better results. Learn more here.

Genesis Laser to boost collagen

Genesis laser uses high-power microsecond pulses at high repetition rates to safely heat the skin. This stimulates collagen and elastin regrowth to soften the appearance of wrinkles and scarring and reduce redness in dilated capillaries. Learn more here.

Anti-wrinkle injections to reduce platsymal bands

Injectable anti-wrinkle treatments involve small amounts of Botulism Toxin being injected into specific areas of the face and neck to weaken the muscle movement, preventing the muscles from contracting to form the wrinkle, or from bulging to form a ‘turkey neck’ appearance. Learn more here.

At Clear Complexions, we recommend a multi-modality approach – which a fancy way of saying that we suggest a combination of the above treatments, depending on the condition you are looking to treat.

The best starting point is to book a consultation with one of our experienced nurses who will advise you on which treatments are best to address your skin – we are ‘The Skin Experts’ after all!

Results after using Ultraformer.

Of course, while it is incredible the difference appropriate and targeted treatments can achieve, prevention is always better.

So, if you remember just one thing, make sure it’s to keep that sunscreen up daily to your face AND neck AND décolletage…and tell the other people in your life to do the same!
