What we wore: Fashfest opening night

HerCanberra Team

After counting down the days, we finally made it to Fashfest’s opening night! The HerCanberra team were super excited to wear outfits from some of the talented Fashfest designers for the evening – we felt so glamorous!  Here’s the down-low on what we all wore:

Amanda Whitley (founder and director) wears jacket and skirt by Karen Lee for Assemblage Project

“I have always loved fashion, but I stick pretty much to classics in my day to day wear. So when there’s an opportunity to really play with what I wear, I grab it with both hands.

I loved this Karen Lee jacket and tulle skirt from Assemblage Project. I wore the jacket with just a bra top underneath, and added a wide Witchery belt to cinch in the waist. The tulle strips in the sleeves tied in with the drama of the full skirt, and the asymmetric tail at the back of the jacket was given some oomph from below.

Teamed with Wittner boots, an Arlington Milne clutch and some neon Colette Hayman drop earrings, it was edgy and playful. I think I have to buy it.”

Jessica Schumann (Editor) wears Boho Birds by Birdsnest dress and Rockstars and Royalty headpiece

“I love Birdsnest’s designs — it’s a label for every woman of every size but it’s also one that curvy and voluptuous women can add to their wardrobe. At 16 weeks pregnant, this delicate number is ideal for embracing my baby bump while maximising comfort and still feeling gorgeous on the red carpet. Pairing the dress with black stilettos, opaques and a black clutch, the head piece added that extra touch of glamour.”

Laura Edwards (Senior Journalist and Communications Manager) wears top and skirt by Sovata

“This skirt was super comfortable and I absolutely loved the colour. The sheer detailing on the top added a touch of vintage glam so I matched my hair and makeup to add to that look with retro curls and red lipstick.”

Javier Steel (Creative Director) wears top and skirt by Corr Blimeybrooch by Silver Atom and Issey Miyake clutch.

“I love how Corr Blimey is structural and architectural. I thought this was an interesting piece that I can’t wear every day, and that’s why I decided to wear this outfit to Fashfest.”

Hayley O’Neill (Fashion Editor) wears dress by The Label

“This dress is so much fun to wear, I rocked it up with a leather jacket and some amazing earrings and I was ready for a fantastic evening!”

Belinda Neame (Events & Administration Coordinator) wears dress by Karen Lee for Assemblage Project

“I loved this dress because it was perfect for Fashfest — the cut-out detailing added an edge to the average Little Black Dress and I felt really comfortable as it wasn’t too fitted. I added some patterned tights to break up the black.”

The HerCanberra team’s hair was done by La Bimbi Salon in NewActon and makeup by the Fashfest team (more on that to come).
