Getting ready

We got ready at Hotel Hotel. We had our creative bride-groom photos before the ceremony and had an ‘unveiling’ of the bride and groom in front of just our close families. It was very special.

The dress

My dress was by Wendy Makin, it was the first dress I tried on and I just loved it. At first I was intimidated by how ornate it looked on the mannequin and wasn’t going to try it on, but my mum pointed it out and once I tried it on I thought it was perfect.

The vintage style and the beaded bodice were stunning. It was also a coincidence that Wendy Makin had come to Canberra for the day when I had my fitting—otherwise I wouldn’t have even seen the dress! Wendy was absolutely lovely, which made me feel even more connected to the dress.

Jeremy is Jewish so we incorporated a lot of Jewish traditions into the ceremony and the reception. We were married under a chuppah, which is a canopy that is supposed to symbolise the home that the Bride and Groom will build together. We built the chuppah with our family and it was held up by our four closest friends.

We loved the vibe and decor at Parlour and the way we were greeted when we went to have a look made it stand out to us. We also loved that it was already beautiful and didn’t require a lot of decorations or flowers.

The wedding was a relaxed affair. Everyone was mingling and dancing the whole time, which is what we wanted. We didn’t want everyone to be separated on tables with the bridal party up the front.

My mum and nan made table centrepieces out of old tea cups, which they turned into candles. It fit in really well with the vibe at Parlour.
