Real weddings: Elyse and Rob

Posted on

Elyse and Rob’s April wedding at Grazing in Gundaroo was a picture-perfect day with a vintage twist. Here, the lovely bride takes us through the big day.

Getting ready

We were super lucky that a few months before our wedding, we discovered some amazing new accomodation had been built just two doors up from Grazing.

The bridesmaids, flower girls and my mum had our hair and make up done at 121 Hair in Queanbeyan and then we drove out to Gundaroo and got dressed in our room at The Nest.

It was so perfect and such a lovely little place to stay.  After we got ready, we walked from there to Grazing for the ceremony. The groom and groomsmen got ready at our place in Weston Creek and got on the bus with about 30 of our guests to Gundaroo all together, which they said was heaps of fun!

The dress

I got my dress from a bridal shop in Canberra. I went looking at dresses when I was 14 weeks pregnant! I was trying on a whole heap of dresses that I thought I would like but nothing was standing out.  As I stood in a dress not convinced I was going to find anything, one on the rack caught my eye. I fell in love with it!

My dress was fitted, champagne coloured, sparkly and full of lace. With its v-neck and a low v-back, it made it very elegant and it had a little bit of a vintage feel. It was amazing and I loved wearing it on the day!

The ceremony

Both our ceremony and reception were held at Grazing in Gundaroo.  We were lucky enough to be married by my best friend’s mother who is an Anglican minister. She married us in the garden at Grazing, and it was the perfect day – about 25 degrees and not a cloud in sight.
Bridesmaids
We chose Grazing after having been there before as part of a winery tour.  We had fallen in love with it a couple of years before we got married and it was so high on our list that other places we looked at didn’t have the same feel for us.  We loved that it was a little out of town but still close enough to make travel easy for our guests.
 Ceremony1
We chose the location for the ceremony specifically because we really wanted to get married outside and the gardens surrounding Grazing are really pretty. There were also some really nice photo locations around Gundaroo that had us excited!

We also had our six month old daughter, Mabel, baptised during the ceremony which was really special.
Baby
When Rob and I talk to people about our wedding we always say that it was the perfect day – nothing went wrong, everything ran so smoothly and was exactly what we had envisioned for our day.  It was the most love filled day of our lives, we had so much fun.

The reception

The reception was in the stone room of Grazing, with the amazing polished concrete floors, high ceilings and timber bar. It’s such a beautiful place! For dinner, we had a two course meal and cake for dessert. They have amazing food.
Reception321
We chose the reception styling with a vintage, romantic and eclectic theme in mind.  I had an image of what I wanted the room to look like and I spent months collecting different bottles, jars, boxes and teapots.  When the room was completely set up I realised that I had nailed it!

The atmosphere on the day was one of love, romance and fun. Everyone that came had an awesome time and it showed.
Grooms
Another highlight would be the dancing and fun we had at the end, an absolute packed dance floor full of all of our most favourite people! So much fun… Such a great party!
Reception
Our photography session was amazing thanks to Kelly Tunney – she knew all the right places to go and made it so relaxed and fun!
