ACTIVE Week: Body Basics Health and Fitness

Body Basics is the largest health club in the Queanbeyan/Jerrabomberra/Googong region.

With over 1200 square metres of training area, including weights area, functional training area, cardio area, group fitness classes and plenty of free parking out front, the club is independently owned and operated which means you are part of our family and not just another number using the facilities. You will be able to see and talk to the business owner and know we have your best interests at heart.

Body Basics is offering all Her Canberra members a 7 day membership from 13 to 19 November which includes all the Clubs facilities and specifically access to over 35 live group fitness classes (we are the only provider of Les Mills classes in the region) and Virtual group fitness classes.

  • One on One Personal Training
  • Small Group Training (a great way to experience personal training with a friend at an affordable price)
  • Massage (remedial, sports specific, relaxation and rock taping) and Thai Massage

What to expect

BODYPUMP™ is for anyone looking to get lean, toned and fit – fast! Using light to moderate weights with lots of repetition, BODYPUMP gives you a total body workout. Instructors will coach you through the scientifically proven moves and techniques pumping out encouragement, motivation and great music – helping you achieve much more than on your own! You’ll leave the class feeling challenged and motivated, ready to come back for more.

Ideal for anyone and everyone, BODYBALANCE™ is the yoga-based class that will improve your mind, your body and your life. During BODYBALANCE an inspired soundtrack plays as you bend and stretch through a series of simple yoga moves and embrace elements of Tai Chi and Pilates. Breathing control is a part of all the exercises, and instructors will always provide options for those just getting started. You’ll strengthen your entire body and leave the class feeling calm and centered. 

BODY COMBAT is an energetic 55 minute cardio workout inspired by martial arts and draws from a wide variety of disciplines such as Karate, Boxing, Tae Kwon Do, Tai Chi and Muay Thai.

Strong Centre is a 30 minute class to focus on the stomach, lower back and supporting muscle around the mid section.

Functional Fitness is a 45 minute group fitness program in our functional training area and is designed to train your body to function better and mimic everyday movements. In life our movements are not in isolation, we use many joints and muscles in unison. FUNCY Fitness is all about making life easier. Our trainers have designed specific workouts to suit the different skill and fitness levels. Fitness is all about progression, every week you will see your body transform to become better at functioning in life.

H.I.I.T – High Intensity Interval Training is designed as a whole body workout which will improve your stamina, fitness and strength in a fun and no intimidating 45 minute workout with a variety of cardio, strength and body weight exercises in short burst with rests in between to let you give a maximum effort.

Boxing is a 55 minute class which incorporates boxing and aerobic drills. A typical class will involve hitting pads, punching bags, skipping, push ups, sit ups and sprints. You will be educated on punching techniques and footwork and improve your punching power, hand-eye coordination, cardiovascular fitness, and leave feeling powerful! Participants are to bring their own cotton boxing inner gloves. Sold at reception for $3 per pair.

Body Stretch is a 55 minute class to improve the flexibility of your joints and muscles. Stretching is a vital component in any fitness regime and our experienced fitness instructors will lead you through a series of stretches. Whether you’re a fitness newbie or a professional level athlete, stretching can help to boost the effectiveness of your workout routine. 

This 45 minute Yoga class cultivates health and wellbeing (physical, emotional, mental and social) through the regular practice of a range of many different techniques, including postures and movement, breath awareness and breathing exercises, relaxation and concentration, self-inquiry and meditation.

Pilates is similar to yoga but emphasizes your body’s core — the abdomen, obliques, lower back, inner and outer thigh, butt, and so on. For this reason, Pilates develops much of what exercisers need — strength, flexibility, muscular endurance, coordination, balance, and good posture — with a much lower chance of injury than with other forms of exercise. The discipline emphasizes correct form instead of going for the burn.

Find your rhythm in a cardio peak-cycling workout that delivers maximum results with minimum impact on your joints. RPM™ tunes you in to great music and takes you on a journey of hill climbs, sprints and flat riding.  You control your own resistance levels and speed so you can build up your training level over time. Your instructor will show you how to set up your bike and all the basic cycling moves.
