ACTIVE Week: Dragon Boat ACT

Want to try the ultimate team sport?

Want to develop your fitness and strength? Want to meet a fabulous community of great people? Want the opportunity to paddle for your state and country? Want to join a team for the social benefits? Looking for an off season complimentary sport? Whether you answered yes or you didn’t, why not give it a go? you might just find something you can’t believe you lived without!

A dragon boat crew generally consists of 18-20 paddlers, a sweep and a drummer. The crew works together to move the boat through the water by harmonising rhythm and applying strength and technique. They train to race at regattas during season which peaks at the National Dragon Boat Championships in March/April. Competition distances include 200m, 500m, 1000m, 2000m and if you join an International Campaign, you might even find yourself in a 5km race.
