CMAG explores Asian culture in latest exhibition

INK REMIX: Contemporary Art from mainland China, Taiwan and Hong Kong is curated by Dr Sophie McIntyre and highlights new and innovative aspects of contemporary ink art.

Artists participating in the exhibition include: Chen Shaoxiong, Feng Mengbo, He Xiangyu, Hung Keung, Cindy Ng Sio Ieng, Ni Youyu, Pan Hsin-hua, Peng Hung-chih, Peng Wei, Qiu Zhijie, Wilson Shieh, Charwei Tsai, Yang Yongliang and Yao Jui-chung.

Ms Burch said that the exhibition features more than 35 works by 14 artists produced in a range of diverse media including: Coca‑cola, tea, biro, ink jet prints, photography, video and animation.

“Most artists in the exhibition have trained in Chinese calligraphy and ink painting but reinvent or subvert the tradition in works that explore links between personal, regional and global experience,” Ms Burch said.

“While the Canberra Museum and Gallery has developed the exhibition in response to our community’s strong interest in the region, I am confident it will be received with great enthusiasm as it tours other Australian galleries.”

The exhibition at the Canberra Museum and Gallery runs until 18 October 2015.
