HerCanberra event: car maintenance for women

Presented by Autoco

We’re on the brink of the weekend, and some of us will be heading out of town. But how much attention do you usually give your car in the lead up to hitting the highway, other than filling up the tank?

If you’ve ever broken down and stood gazing helplessly at the ‘bits under the hood’, wondered if your tyres are safe to drive on, or blown a headlight while driving at night, we’ve got an event for you.

Well, we’ve teamed up with Autoco to host a free workshop for women who are interested in learning some key basics to maintaining their vehicle. Their professionals will share tips and tricks and give you some great hands-on experience in three key areas: checking your tyres, getting under the hood, and being prepared for a dark, wet night. You’ll leave the workshop feeling more confident about driving and also about dealing with your own mechanic.

What you’ll learn

How to check your tyres

The state of your tyres can affect the performance and safety of your vehicle. Staying on top of your tyre health is not difficult once you know what you are doing. Autoco will talk you through checking tyre pressures and treads as well as answer any questions that may arise around your four wheels.

Getting under the hood

An area of your vehicle that can be somewhat daunting is ‘under the hood’. Whilst vehicles can vary a great deal, knowing some of the basics will help to keep your car out of trouble.

Preparing for a dark, wet night

A blown head, brake or tail light can be quick to go and even as quick to replace if you know where to look in your car. Quickly fixing this will also help to avoid any unwanted fines. The team will show you the basics of buying and replacing these globes, and also show you how to replace your wiper blades.

Learn in a friendly environment

The workshop will be a great opportunity to learn the basics of car maintenance in a non-intimidating ‘hands on’ environment. There’ll be coffee on hand, and you’ll meet some other great HerCanberra readers. We’d love to see you there!
