The Ramayana

After a series of sold-out shows in Australia, New Zealand and in the United States, Sydney’s Indian Dance Centre will be presenting its Ramayana dance drama production at the Canberra College of Performing Arts Centre on Saturday 5 September 2015 at 6:30pm.

The Ramayana is a story of love, loyalty, betrayal and victory of good over evil. It depicts the story of Rama, an extraordinary prince and the ideal man, who embodies loyalty, compassion and honour.

Ramayana 2

The Ramayana epic has been presented in various storytelling and performing arts forms globally. Under the direction of Shri Raghavan Nair and his daughter Poornima Sharma, the Ramayana has been choreographed as a 2-hour dance drama, incorporating several Indian dance styles including Kuchipudi, folk dance and semi-classical dance.

The Ramayana will open with two short performances by two of India’s foremost exponents of the Kathak and Bharatanatyam dance styles, Pandita Uma Dogra and Shri Vaibhav Arekar. Dogra and Arekar will also be conducting classical Indian dance workshops on Sunday, 6 September 2015 at Playing Field Studio in Canberra city. No prior dance experience is required, just an enthusiasm for learning about Indian dance!
