Five gluten-free dessert recipes for effortless entertaining

Ah, dessert. Arguably the best meal of the day.

But as we start to swing into the entertaining season with BBQs, garden parties and catch-ups with family suddenly filling up diaries, you might be wondering how to cater for your gluten-free guests – especially when it comes to dessert options.

Perfect for menu planning (or for bringing along when you don’t want to show up to an event empty-handed), these gluten-free dessert recipes will make hosting a breeze.

And they’re so packed full of flavour, that we promise that they will please everybody.

First up? Basque in the glory of making your own cheesecake thanks to this recipe from Emma Macdonald.

Quick, easy, and almost foolproof, to make it gluten-free for your guests, all you need to do is swap plain flour for coconut flour. Emma swears by the fact that the nutty sweetness of the coconut flour makes it even more delicious, and we promise that your guests will be waxing lyrical about them for weeks to come.

If your aim is to make a comforting dessert, this gluten-free apple crumble from foodie queen Grace Minehan (of Against the Grain) is the ultimate trans-seasonal treat for when the days are warm and the nights are cool. Warm, crumbly, and downright delicious when served with a generous dollop of cream or custard, a top tip is to add chopped rhubarb to make an apple and rhubarb crumble – perfect if you want some extra oomph.

Chocolate is always a crowd favourite, especially when it’s in the form of cake. This decadent gluten-free chocolate cake from Anisa Sabet is layered with raspberry jam, slathered in white chocolate buttercream, and finished with toasted coconut, making it the dessert to bake when you want to impress.

Served with tea or coffee, it’s ideal for a morning or afternoon tea – and it will look absolutely stunning on your table.

Want to make something sweet that’s low in sugar, contains fruit, and can be served to gluten-free and lactose-free guests? This allergy-friendly avocado chocolate mousse is surprisingly healthy – and with five ingredients, so easy to make. All you need is avocados, dates, honey, vanilla extract, and cocoa powder*! Dress it up with berries or add a zing with salt and you’re done. And there’s no need to slave away over a hot oven. *Chefs kiss*.

Did you know that you can make homemade chocolate truffles with nothing but chocolate, yoghurt, maple syrup, a bit of cocoa* and whatever flavour options you have lying around (including rum for the adults).

You simply melt chocolate, mix it with yoghurt, maple syrup and your desired flavour addition, freeze, roll, coat, and BOOM! You’ve got a fortnight’s worth (a few days for some) of gluten-free choccie treats. Who says you don’t look out for your mates?

*Just make sure to double-check check your cocoa powder is gluten-free!
