What’s better than sitting in the sun under a shaded tree, with a book written by a local in one hand and a cold icy drink in the other?

Check out this exciting list with five new books to add to your TBR written by Canberrans – from mind-bending mystery to riveting romance to a feminine future, there’s something here for everyone!

Unfinished Revolution: The Feminist Fightback by Virginia Haussegger

This is a fresh take on the feminist fight for equality in Australia with Virginia Haussegger’s new book. Name the 2019 ACT Australian of the Year, Virginia Haussegger, is an award-winning journalist and advocate of gender equality at the 50/50 by 2030 foundation to emphasise the importance of women’s leadership in government and public administration.

Virginia Haussegger’s book explores what the feminist change really looks like across the decades, from the March4Justice in 2021 to the 1970s Women’s Liberation Movement. Haussegger’s book looks at shifting national consciousness and the fight for gender equality.

The Bolthole by Peter Papathanasiou

This thrilling new mystery book by Peter Papathanasiou should be added to your TBR ASAP. Set off the coast of South Australia on Kangaroo Island, this book follows the tale of a shark attack of one of the rich men on the island –  except things aren’t adding up, and the detectives are having a hard time with the locals. What happens after? You’ll have to tell me. It’s a great mystery to add to your list because not only is it set in Australia, but also by a Canberran author.

Catching Feelings by Joanne Rose

Love is in the air (and the airport) with the publication of Canberra romance author Joanne Rose’s book, Catching Feelings. This self-published novel captures the romance between a single dad who’s a workaholic and a girl starting a new job as an assistant. Wondering if this new adventure was doomed from the very beginning, the only problem is that he’s her boss. But does that stop them?

The End of the Ski Season by Anna Snoekstra

Anna Snoekstra is an international bestselling author who grew up in Canberra and is now located in Melbourne, and she has just hit us with her new novel. Set in the Snowy Mountains, this book follows a journalism lecturer returning to the workforce after having a baby. She stumbles upon a photograph that leads her to a double-murder cold case. Juggling an infant and a 40-year-old cold case seems to be challenging, and will she be able to solve it, or will she crash and burn?

Between the Lines by Sofia Green

At 19 years old, Sofia Green has released her debut novel ‘Between the Lines’ under her pen name S P Gibson.  From starting a cosmetics line at 14 to now releasing her book with plans for three more books in the series, Sofia Green is a trailblazer and high achiever.

Her book tells the story of Stella and Luke. Stella’s friends are worried about her love life and Luke’s parents are everything but happy about his decisions, so when they ask him to bring a ‘respectable date’ to his family reunion, Luke has to think fast. Fake dating to keep Stella’s friends off her back and Luke’s family happy seems like the perfect idea in theory but when does fake start to become real?
