The Nappy Collective is aiming to collect 550,000 nappies – and they only have four days left to do it

28,000 nappies. That’s the demand for new and leftover nappies for disadvantaged families in Canberra.
And with many households struggling through the cost-of-living crisis, that number will only grow.
That’s why The Nappy Collective (Australia’s only not-for-profit solely focused on collecting and redistributing nappies for families in crisis) is running its biggest-ever campaign, aiming to collective a whopping 550,000 nappies across Australia to donate to families in need – and with just four days left, they need your help.
Creating the Clean Bums for Little Ones campaign to help the growing number of families across Australia suffering from nappy stress, the not-for-profit is asking for donations of new or leftover disposable nappies for vulnerable little ones.
Distributing nearly 7 million nappies since 2013, according to Nappy Collective CEO Sarah Witty, the current nappy need is the largest ever seen in organisations 10-year history.
“We know that there are many families that have been on the margins, but a sharp rent increase or higher costs at the supermarket have pushed them across the poverty line,” says Sarah.
“For the first time ever, they are asking for help.”
With families in need of nappies often escaping domestic violence, facing homelessness, experiencing financial hardship or seeking refuge, not only does nappy stress impact children – it also takes a significant toll on parents who are often forced to choose between essentials like nappies and food for themselves to help stretch their limited funds.
Calling for Canberrans to donate new and leftover nappies at one of the collection points that are located across the city (including Baby Bunting Fyshwick, Baby Bunting Belconnen and Cooleman Court Shopping Centre), as the campaign comes to a close on Friday 24 May, The Nappy Collective is still hoping to reach its target of collecting 550,000 nappies, helping 18,000 vulnerable families across Australia in the process.
And with an estimated one in 10 families in Australia currently unable to afford the nappies they need, it’s a big step in helping to keep little ones clean, happy, and healthy.
The only request? That disposable nappies are new or from open packs and reusable nappies are brand new in original packaging.
“Every donation, big or small, will help a local family in need so please donate whatever you can,” says Sarah.
