Here’s the rub: 10 of the best massages in Canberra (and further afield)

Posted on

This is a post for the ladies AND the guys! I only first indulged in massages just over two years ago when my boyfriend bought me a voucher for Christmas. He’s a big lover of massages, whereas I always felt self conscious about the idea of having to be totally exposed to a complete stranger.

If you feel like that, I’m telling you now – forget about! As soon as a massage starts up you completely forget you’re half naked and you’re at complete mercy of the massage therapist.

Turns out a lot of HerCanberra readers are huge lovers of massages as well, so we thought we’d put together a list of our top places.

Sawasdee Thai Massage {South Side}

Sawasdee Thai Massage is where my massage voucher was for – I indulged in a one hour full body and half an hour foot massage. Both were totally amazing! I’m not a huge fan of pressure and prefer a more light touch and they completely catered to that.

Where: Shop 3 Tuggeranong Square, Anketell Street, Greenway
When: 10am to 10pm, seven days
Price: 1 hour traditional thai massage $75

Griffith Massage Centre {South Side}

Our fabulous editor Amanda recently visited the Griffith Massage Centre and says ‘they know their stuff!’ Conveniently located if you live or work in the inner south. As well as remedial and relaxation massage, they also offer cupping and hot stone massage for something a little different.

Where: 10A Barker Street, Griffith Shops, Griffith
When: Open seven days from 9am
Price: 1 hour $92

Body Temple {South Side}

Sue Geelan has a passion for massage that is really evident in any treatment she gives. We roadtested Body Temple’s Heartworks Lomi Lomi Hawaiian Massage – a treatment that she describes as being a massage for the body AND mind….you can read about the experience here. Sue also offers relaxation massages with a whole host of traditional beauty treatments.

Where: Body Temple, Barker Street, Griffith Shops
When: Call 0411 543 107 for opening hours and appointments

How much: $105 for an hour, $135 for 90 minutes

Canberra KaHuna Massage & Reiki {South Side}

For something a little different you could try a Hawaiian massage…I’ve personally had several massages at Canberra KaHuna Massage & Reiki and it’s amazing. So different to a Thai or Swedish massage and extremely budget friendly!

Where: Chisholm
When: Monday to Friday 6pm to 10pm; Saturday and Sunday 9am to 8pm
Price: 90 minutes $75

Live Well Spa and Wellness Centre {South Sde}

Amelia Bidgood discovered this little gem hidden two streets back from the centre of Manuka in a heritage listed building. Live Well is the place to go to get back in touch with your spiritual self and experience a deeper level of treatments and therapy for relaxation and healing purposes. Combining pampering beauty treatments with a holistic approach Live Well’s reatments range from reiki, meditation, acupuncture, specialty massages, facials, body treatments plus much more.

Where: 35 Murray Crescent, Manuka
When: 9am to 5.30 pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 12 noon Saturday
Price: 1 hour $95

Therapy Masters {City}

Therapy Masters place gets a high rating by writer Luisa who said ‘So good, they removed my stress over a number of years!’. Because of their city location they’d be great for an after work treat or even for those who dare get a massage in their lunch break! From what I’ve seen they offer the most different types of massages in one place.

Where: Level 1, City Walk Arcade, City Walk, Canberra City
When: Monday to Wednesday 10am – 6pm, Thursday to Saturday 10am – 6:30pm; Sunday 10am – 4pm
Price: 1 hour $95

Thai Bliss Massage {City}

Step into Thai Bliss Massage‘s  beautifully lit corridor of rice paper screens and you’d swear that you’d been transported to Asia. The experience is equally traditional – these massages are expertly given, with real attention given to problem areas. From Traditional Thai to Swedish and Hot Stone massages, whatever your fancy you’ll find it here.

Where: 14 Childers Street, Canberra City
When: 10am to 10pm, seven days
Price: Varies as to type of massage. Most are $89 for 1 hour.

Foot and Thai {North Side}

When HerCanberra’s Michelle Brotohusodo posted about her visit to Foot and Thai, we received a tonne of feedback from their loyal clients. Michelle raved about it – and as a heads up, they’re extremely popular and you do need to book in advance to get a session.

Where: Shop 6, 36 Weedon Close, Belconnen
When: 10am to 10pm, seven days
Price: Price not listed on website.

Bai Bua Traditional Thai Massage {North Side}

Bai Bua is another parlour that has a vote of confidence from a member of the HerCanberra Team! This time from Martina Taliano, who vouches ‘they are fantastic’! A great option for who live far north and need a weekend pick-me-up.

Where: 86 Phyllis Ashton Circuit, Gungahlin
When: 10am to 10pm, seven days
Price: 1 hour traditional thai massage $65

Ingenue Milton {South Coast}

We all know Canberrans love travelling to the coast so I couldn’t resist throwing in a place to get a massage when you’re on your next weekend away to make it that extra special. And husbands, if you’re listening, this would go down a treat if you bought your partner a voucher to Ingenue Milton!

Where: 97 Princes Highway, Milton
When: Monday 8:30am – 3pm; Tuesday 8:30am – 5pm; Wednesday 8:30 am – 7pm; Thursday 8:30am – 8pm; Friday 8:30am – 6pm; Saturday 9am – 4pm
Price: 75 minutes $80

Suz Geelan at The Body Temple at Griffith Shops is the best for me. The most divine, indulgent blissful massages and treatments I’ve experienced anywhere.

Pam, I agree – I love Suz’s massages for relaxing, oozy bliss… She has some of the best hands in this town! My visit to Griffith Massage Centre was for remedial massage (not nearly as enjoyable but it did the trick!)

I’ve done circuits round Canberra looking for remedial massage relief. @ top of my list is Wang’s Chinese Massage in Civic. Awesone massages no matter who is delivering, friendly service & a great, worthwhile loyalty card I put to use again & again.
