Miele takes the home appliance experience to new heights at Canberra Centre
Posted on
If you are in the market for a household appliance, is there anything more important than seeing and touching it for yourself?
After all, a major appliance is usually a prominent part of any home – on display and in regular, if not constant, use. It’s almost like a new family member – only shinier and more high-tech.
That’s why Miele, the 125-year-old German premium appliance manufacturer, has created an entire Experience Centre on the top floor of the Canberra Centre. It allows Canberrans to get up close and personal with their new best friend – be it a new induction cooktop, whisper-quiet dishwasher or state-of-the-art heat-pump tumble dryer.
The 180-square-metre retail space is designed for easy and inquisitive exploration. You can check out everything you might need for a kitchen or laundry renovation, or simply take in the advances in vacuums, irons or coffee machines.
The immersive environment allows customers to interact with cutting-edge technology and discover how Miele products can transform their everyday lives (check out the HerCanberra Team’s first look below). Visitors to the Centre will also be able to enjoy live demonstrations.

For the HerCanberra team, a morning spent with Miele began with a steaming coffee fresh from the new CM 6360 benchtop coffee machine. Once caffeinated, we perched at the custom-made kitchen bench for a cooking demonstration with in-house Miele Culinary Expert, Belinda who used a bank of ovens to create a variety of different dishes. Our minds were open to new frontiers in culinary technology (including the benefits of using steam during the cooking process, and an oven that automatically opens itself at the end of the cooking process, so you don’t burn your food) and we watched as Belinda dried fresh herbs, steamed broccolini and pulled a magnificent focaccia from the oven.
Before you even ask, yes, we got to taste everything, including crème brulée which would be right at home coming out of a hatted restaurant kitchen because of the gentle way the steam cooked the proteins.
Belinda said customers’ reaction to the Experience Centre has been overwhelmingly positive.
“There has been enormous interest and customers have been really excited to explore the full suite of Miele appliances,” she said, noting that the self-cleaning combi-steam ovens were quite the focus-puller.
Noting we need to up our game in the kitchen where cooking broccolini and focaccia is concerned, it was time to tour the rest of the showroom. From washing machines which invite you to throw in your dirtiest items (think sneakers) to dryers which envelop your clothes in a beautiful fragrance as they dry, we started to see “whitegoods” in a whole new light.
The wine conditioner was a highlight for its beauty while the new robot vacuum did a test run around our feet and may well be coming home with one of us (Emma, who has two cats who shed copiously…).
One of the most pleasant parts of the experience was the chance to chat with the always accommodating staff, who were experts in their product knowledge. Some of the advances in technology were truly astonishing, i.e. a 90cm induction cooktop where you could place a pot in any position and it would heat, not to mention a slim-line downdraft exhaust fan that pops up out of the kitchen bench to eliminate cooking steam and odours while cooking.
Canberra’s Miele Experience Centre joins 14 others around Australia and New Zealand providing customers with the opportunity to explore Miele’s commitment to excellence for themselves.
“Our new Canberra Experience Centre is a prime example of how we’re continuing to redefine the customer experience beyond their expectations and to inspire a home of possibilities,” said Yves Dalcourt, Managing Director of Miele Australia and New Zealand.
“We’re dedicated to providing excellent products and customer satisfaction. So, when customers step into our Experience Centre, they’ll see firsthand how our latest innovations can make life easier for them.”
The Miele Experience Centre at Canberra Centre will be open seven days a week, in line with normal retail trading hours and very much encourages passers-by to pay a visit. You may even get coffee and one of Belinda’s fresh-baked chocolate brownies while you’re there.
