Forage for the MINI and win a mini break

Amanda Whitley

This weekend, it’s all about food and fashion, when fashion market Hustle&Scout and street-style food event, The Forage, enjoy their last hurrah in Hangar #47 as they prepare to search for a new home. And to celebrate, they’re giving you an advance opportunity to ‘forage’ some goodies – as well as offering up a MINI Break, thanks to Rolfe Classic MINI Garage.

Saturday’s Autumn event will boast the largest ensemble to date: more than 60 fashion designers will bring their stylish wares to Fairbairn, over a third of which are new to the market.

Foodies are spoilt for choice – The Forage will present 32 of the finest local and regional restaurants, food trucks, bakeries, coffee companies, wineries and breweries. New vendor, The Boat House by The Lake, will be one to watch out for, offering visitors a special three-course menu with a street-food twist (Bacon Popcorn, 48 our Lamb Shoulder Baguettes and Pumpkin Cheesecake Ice Cream, anyone?)

There will be a live music lounge, roving dance performances by Subsdance, and a series of six different workshops presented by The Maker’s Collective. Roaming FASHFEST models will also take the spotlight, wearing pieces by local designers set to showcase their new collections at the four-day runway event from Wednesday 13 to Saturday 16 May.

Event organisers, Tegan McAuley and Belinda Neame, are encouraging Canberrans make the most of the last chance to experience this dynamic twilight event at the hangar, which was built in 1940 as part of the Royal Australian Air Force base.

“We knew our arrangement with The Canberra Airport would be short-term, but we were happy to forgo the option of securing a permanent home in order to activate this incredible space for as long as we could.”

The friends have been meeting with ACT Government officials to assist them in finding a new home for their event.

“We want our next home to match our brand, so we will be looking very carefully for an unconventional event space with the right feel”, says Belinda.

“We are excited to see what possibilities lie ahead for us, this is our chance to keep things fresh and exciting for Canberra.”
