Australian music legend Jimmy Barnes, Samantha Jade, and Nathaniel will take to the stage at January’s Australian of the Year Awards and Concert.

Combined on one large stage in front of Parliament House, the event will kick off at 5pm on January 25.

National Australia Day Council Chief Executive Officer Jeremy Lasek says this year’s event will be “better than ever” with the Awards and Concert integrated into one giant show.

“We’ve got a big new stage, some of Australia’s greatest and hottest new performers and 32 of our most inspiring Australians all together in one big celebration,” says Mr Lasek.

“I know the people of Canberra will again welcome our Australian of the Year Awards finalists with enthusiasm and I look forward to seeing the crowd waving their flags, dressed in green and gold, singing along and dancing as one.”

Australian rock legend Jimmy Barnes will headline the night.

Jimmy Barnes will headline celebrations.

Headlining the evening is Jimmy Barnes, who says he is looking forward to returning to Canberra for the landmark event.

“This event is something special – it’s far more than a concert, it’s a national celebration and it’s a real honour to share the stage with the Australians of the Year and with Parliament House as a backdrop,” said Jimmy.

“It’s a great way to kick off Australia Day celebrations, a fantastic atmosphere and a really friendly, happy crowd of all ages – I’m really excited to be coming back to Canberra for this.”

While Jimmy will bring his quintessentially Aussie sound to the evening, Samantha Jade will bring her irresistible pop sound, including her latest hit ‘Always’ from the new album ‘Nine’.  While she’s attracted international attention and a multiple album record deal in the United States, Samantha says she is always proud to perform at Australia Day events.

“I love being part of Australia Day concerts – what better way to celebrate being Australian,” says Samantha.

“The Australian of the Year Awards and Concert in Canberra is something new for me and I’m excited to be in the nation’s capital for such an important event. I’ve heard its always a terrific show, a great crowd and lots of fun.”

Also sure to get the crowd moving is Nathaniel, whose singles ‘You’, ‘Live Longer’ and ‘Flava’ have dance floors jam packed on a regular basis.

Topping off the list of performers is hot new favourite Cyrus Villanueva, fresh from the seventh season of The X Factor, who will perform his single ‘Stone’. Cyrus’ soulful sound won the young singer/songwriter a legion of fans during The X Factor and he has recently recorded his debut album.
