There are one-off decadent truffle degustations, truffle markets, truffle growing seminars and more – and that’s just in June alone!

12 June – Majura Valley Experience

Start your day with a truffle hunt, then head to Mount Majura Vineyard for wine and truffled brie tastings and finish your day with a three course lunch at Pod Food. Sounds divine doesn’t it? Majura Valley Experience will take place every Sunday during the festival. $170pp. Find out more

18 June – Wild on Truffles lunch, Pialligo Estate

During your three course lunch, you will engage in a hands on experience by using your own truffles on your meals. Truffle experts will demonstrate techniques and answers questions. You can use as much or as little truffle as you would like, you’re in control! A real DIY experience. $120pp. Find more out

18 June – Black Truffle & Hazelnut Growing Seminar

Want to know what there is to know about growing hazelnut trees and truffles? This comprehensive seminar is designed for existing growers and those considering entering either industry. $149 pp. Find out more.

23 June – Hyatt Hotel Veuve Clicquot Truffle Dinner

Join Executive Chef Nitin Kumar and a champagne ambassador from Veuve Clicquot and celebrate the truffle festival with a six course degustation menu. $210pp inc. champagne. Booking information.

25 June – Westfield Woden Truffle Market Day

This is set to be a great day out for the whole family. There will be free truffle cooking demonstrations by Canberra’s leading chefs, talks by local truffle growers and free tastings. The local truffle dogs will also work their magic and sniff out the ‘black gold’. 25 June – Canberra Truffles at the National Press Club

You will enjoy a six course truffle degustation matched with Hungerford Hill Wines. Food will be plated on stage and the chefs will speak about their dishes. $110 members, $135 non members. Find out more.

30 June – Truffle Festival Gala Dinner, National Arboretum

The chefs of Canberra team from the best Canberra restaurants come together with local truffle farms and wineries. Expect a four course truffle degustation with spectacular matched local wines. Set in the beautiful Village Centre at the National Arboretum. $125pp Find out more.

Bicicletta, New Acton

Executive Chef Rajib Ahmed will be making truffles come to life during the Truffle Festival with weekly specials highlighting the versatility and uniqueness of truffles. Booking information.

Starting 27 June, Boffins will feature truffle laced dishes and gourmet tastings curated with selected local and interstate wines. More information.

Black Fire Restaurant, Braddon

Black Fire will have a special dish on the menu during truffle season and also offer diners truffle shaves by the gram. They will also be selling whole truffles to the public. More information.

Column Restaurant, Barton

Enjoy a four course truffle degustation every Wednesday and Thursday night during the festival. Menu changes monthly. In June: truffle wallaby prosciutto, cocoa nib tuile Parmesan cracker, truffle custard, truffle brioche for starters, confit egg yolk, hazelnut for entree, Guinea fowl, potato fondant, spec, leek, jus with truffles freshly shaved at the table for main and for dessert oat and barley crumble, Valrhona Dulcey truffle mousse, candy apple disc. $60pp, $90 paired with matching wine. More information.

Head Chef Toby Thorley has created a special truffle inspired menu served at lunch and dinner throughout truffle season using the best of our local produce. Menu will change every two weeks! In the first two weeks of June enjoy poached pear and prosciutto with goats cheese and truffle vinaigrette, sous vide ribeye on the bone serve on top of truffle mash potato finished with a mushroom ragu and toasted hazelnuts Pana Cotter with frozen truffle cream raspberry’s hazelnut sponge and truffle oil. Trev’s at Dickson

Truffle specials will be running throughout the season. Trev will be producing dishes that highlight the delicate flavours of the truffles with local ingredients and wines to match. More information

Truffle, beer and wine tastings

The region’s local wineries, Lerida Estate, Mount Majura and Pankhurst Winery are offering a variety of truffle platters and samples to try with their wines, including Pinot Noir.

For the beer drinkers, BentSpoke Brewery at Braddon will be creating a specialty truffled-beer utilising their bartop ‘Hopinator’ infuser.

Plonk at the Fyshwick Fresh Food Markets will be offering wine tastings matched with truffle dishes, starting 18 June 2016.

June truffle hunts

This is the ultimate treasure hunt and something both you and the kids will both love.

Hunts will take place most weekends during winter and involve extras like lunches, tastings and cooking demonstrations. The first ones kick off 12 June. But get in quick to avoid disappointment as hunts are very popular!

Macenmist Black Truffles, Bredbo

Macenmist Black Truffles is located near Bredbo, about an hours drive from Canberra. Barbara and Richard and their Lagotto Romagnolo’s will take visitors on hunts on Saturdays and Sundays starting 12 June 2016. Prices start at $30. Find out more.

Turalla Truffles, Bungendore

Turalla Truffles is located close to the town of Bungendore, 30 minutes from Canberra near Lake George. Join Damian, his family and dogs for a truffle hunt each Sunday morning in search of the wondrous Black Winter Truffle. Hunts start 26 June 2016. Prices start at $70. Find out more.

Blue Frog Truffles is at Sutton, about 15 minutes from Canberra. Hunts will take place Sundays and Wednesdays, starting 19 June 2016. Prices start at $65. Find out more.

Where to buy fresh truffle & truffle products

You can buy fresh and value-added Black Winter Truffle products to use at home from a range of delis at Fyshwick Fresh Food Markets. Look out for Murray River Truffle Salt and Great Southern Truffle products. They’re delicious.

Cooking classes

Winter is always a great time to get into the kitchen, and now you have another reason! Truffles. Learn how to cook with truffle, or for those who are old hats at it, pick up some new tips from our talented chefs at 3seeds Cooking School, Foodish and Le Tres Bon. Some classes include truffle hunts so check the site for more details. Cooking classes start in July.
