Real Weddings: Eunbi and Ali
Posted on
With sleek black and white styling, festoon lights and an indoor ‘garden’ ceremony, Eunbi and Ali’s beautiful winter wedding at the National Gallery of Australia (NGA) provides plenty of chic inspiration. We asked the lovely bride, Eunbi, to talk us through the big day…
I know everyone says this, but all those months of stress were worth it for how amazing and perfect our wedding day was.
Although I was a bit hesitant about having a winter wedding at first, there were actually a lot of benefits – the biggest being that you aren’t sweating off your makeup, as Canberra winters are super cold during the morning then nice and crisp during the day, which worked out to be perfect.
Ali and I enquired into many venues for our wedding reception and ceremony but when we went to visit the NGA, we knew right away that it was the perfect venue, and every interaction we had with the NGA just confirmed our initial feelings.
Being a massive food lover, the menu was extremely important to me. And who could say no to those high ceilings and the amazing floor to ceiling gold doors?
We decided to have both our ceremony and reception at Gandel Hall as we knew that the space could really bring to light what we had in mind.
I had always wanted a garden ceremony but being unsure of the weather, Gandel Hall was perfect because the huge glass panels let in the beautiful light and view of the gardens and we were able to style the hall with greenery to bring some of the “outdoors” indoors.
Our ceremony was intimate and our festoon lights and arch gave it the winter garden feel we wanted. It didn’t actually occur to me that I was walking down the aisle until about halfway down which is when my eyes started to water!
The NGA showed such a high level of professionalism with a personal touch. Jemma at the NGA was patient, calm and helpful in the lead up to the event and was ready to answer the one million questions I had.
On the day, the tables were set up beautifully with the exact detail I had wanted.
Whilst I wasn’t a bridezilla (or so I say), the NGA really did make me feel like I had nothing to worry about in terms of set up and logistics.
The venue and space have the base foundations to create something beautiful via the gold doors, high ceilings, wooden floors and glass doors but allows you to customise and style the space to make it your own.
The reception was when the party really began. I’ll never forget the excitement of making our grand entrance as a married couple and seeing the hall for the first time filled with all our loved ones.
The atmosphere was absolutely electric and everything was so vibrant.
All the dishes were as delicious as the day we did the tasting which is a big credit to the kitchen at the NGA – getting 145 dishes out at the same time and still tasting great is no small feat.
So many of our guests commented on how good the food was. I have to say the most memorable part of the night was the electric atmosphere on the dance floor.
We had both of our grandmas dancing to Daft Punk, a father dance off, dance battles and a conga line. It was just too much fun!
I think one of the best things we heard from guests was that the wedding was “so us” and that the atmosphere really was a reflection of our style, love and happiness.
