Help Share The Dignity through yoga this Saturday

As Australian women, most of us don’t think twice about buying sanitary products to get us through that unsettling time of the month.
But do you know what’s even more unsettling? Not being able to afford them at all. Every night in Australia, 48,000 women are homeless, just trying to sleep safely through the night, let alone spending their precious money on pads and tampons. Australian-wide organisation Share the Dignity is trying to close the gap for homeless and disadvantaged women to obtain the sanitary products they need to survive, through fundraising, events and donations.
ACT’s Share the Dignity Team Leader, Nikki Bensch, decided to make a difference after considering the hardship of menstruating without the necessary products.
“Through Share the Dignity, I’ve discovered the difference small acts of kindness can make. By donating one packet of pads or tampons, we are not only giving the gift of dignity, we are also saying to a vulnerable woman that we care about you, we support you and you are not alone.”
And what better way to bring women from all walks of life together for a good cause than a collective yoga class throughout Canberra? Share the Dignity is hosting Yoga4Dignity classes at 11 gyms and wellness centres around Canberra on Saturday September 1, to help raise funds and collect sanitary product donations to support women faced with homelessness and disadvantage across Australia.
Now in its second year, Yoga4Dignity aims to get 48,000 people to stand, stretch, bend and unite to share support and dignity for women less fortunate.
“Yoga is such an inclusive way of bringing Australians together, downward dogging and saluting for all the women and children needing our help,” explains founder of Share the Dignity, Rochelle Courtenay. “Our mission is to enable and empower all Australian women and children to have the dignity they deserve.”
There are locations hosting the class all over Canberra, making it super easy to get involved and make a difference. Each class costs $20 and requires registration online.
