Enlighten Festival 2019: Nine highlights

With March just around the corner, the annual Enlighten Festival is back once again and it’s bigger and brighter than ever before.
With a diverse array of events happening all over the city during Enlighten, here are nine events not to be missed.
Canberra Night Noodle Markets

Honestly, food festivals are never to be missed! As the Illuminations light up iconic attractions around the Parliamentary Triangle, indulge in a vast array of Asian delights.
Foodies featured at the Canberra Night Noodle Markets include Hoy Pinoy, Chur Burger, Churken, Shallot Thai, Mr Bao, Bangkok Street Food, What the Pho, Bao Brothers, May’s Malaysian Hawker, Twistto, Flying Noodles, Little Kyoto, Waffleland, Wok Master, Satay Brothers, Donburi Station with more to be announced soon.
An experience for all your senses. It’s a cashless event with vendors are only accepting EFTPOS.

Haig Park Pickture Festival

1 ticket, 3 screens… Pick your movie. The Haig Park Pikture Festival is a unique outdoor social cinema where three cinemas will light up the trees simultaneously.
Surrounded by a food and wine hub, either choose to watch the movies at the bar or plug in some headphones and settle in for a retro flick.
Be aware that it is not a quiet zone and talking is permitted. Perfect for first dates or for families.

Illuminations

Watch the Parliamentary Triangle come to life after the sun sets.
Immerse your senses in the large-scale projections on Australian Parliament House, the National Portrait Gallery, the National Library of Australia, the Museum of Australian Democracy, the National Gallery of Australia and Questacon which will all be transformed into vibrant art precincts.
With an eclectic mix of roving artists, live bands and enchanting performances, it’s a great excuse to be out and about after dark.

33 Revolutions – Be part of something big!

A collaborative artwork inspired by the transformative power of music, watch this insta-worthy artwork grow, as it comes to life with the spirit of revolution.
Be part of something big, connecting thousands of voices from different generations, cultures and identities as you are entertained by a rocking soundtrack including Joan Baez, Kendrick Lamar, Paul Kelly, John Williamson and everything in between.

Lights! Canberra! Action!

Celebrate the 50th anniversary of the moon landing (which the Honeysuckle Creek Tracking Station, just south of Canberra, helped televised to the world!) at Lights! Canberra! Action!.
Filmmakers will explore the theme of ‘one small step’ with only 10 days to shoot, edit and produce a seven-minute film. The top twelve finalists will be screening their films with the awards winners announced immediately afterwards.
Bring a chair, bean bag or blanket and settle in for a great night of film viewing. Picnics are welcome and foodies will be on site providing movie snacks.

Canberra Balloon Spectacular

One of the best reasons to be up early and watch the sunrise in Canberra.
With more than thirty hot air balloons from the across the globe taking to our skies, it’s a sight not to be missed. Pilots will begin inflating their balloons on the lawns of Old Parliament House before ascending into the sky and creating a picturesque backdrop for Canberra’s national attractions.
Passengers can experience the thrill of hot air ballooning over Canberra at sunrise while spectators on the ground are treated to an experience of the senses. Flurries of colour, sound and movement complemented by live music, hot drinks and a delicious breakfast available for purchase from the Belconnen Lions Club will make your morning one to remember.

Symphony in the Park

The Canberra Symphony Orchestra, led by legendary conductor George Ellis, have outdone themselves this year, collaborating with the Best of the Bee Gees to bring nostalgic hits we all know and love to life.
Framed by the tree-lined landscape of the iconic Commonwealth Park, sit back and relax as the Canberra Symphony Orchestra fills the air with Bee Gees’ hits.
Bring a picnic blanket and enjoy a bite to eat from the on-site foodies as you watch the sun set.

Enlighten Degustation with Executive Chef David Learmonth
For one night only, hatted and Michelin star chef, Executive chef David Learmonth has curated a menu highlighting exceptional Australian produce.
Enjoy a fine dining six-course degustation meal in the most spectacular vantage point in Canberra. This is a once-a-year event. Numbers are strictly limited, so don’t miss out.

Hit 104.7 Skyfire

Skyfire will light up the skies of Canberra as it returns for its 31st year. Look to the sky to take in a dazzling display of aerial acrobatics and spectacular fireworks set to a soundtrack simultaneously broadcast on HIT 104.7.
